The snowy dots and dots are typically from a poor signal going into the TV. If there are colored pixels that stay lit all the time (like a red pixel and never goes away) and for any input, that’s called a stuck pixel. A stuck pixel may be caused by a bad Y-Sustain, Y-drives, Z-sustain, and or a bad plasma panel. Good Luck.
What to do if you have an all snowy picture (blue screen or the TV displays unusable signal-no signal or no sync)
1 – If you are using a digital cable box or satellite receiver (make sure it’s on) and be sure your TV is set for either CH3 or CH4 (which ever you usually view it on). If you usually view it through video inputs (video1 or 2 etc.) make sure the appropriate input is selected.
If you still don’t get a signal see if you get picture using the DVD or VCR (if available) if you do than plug the satellite or Dig. Box temporarily into the place of the DVD (unplug DVD) you may have to use some A/V cables (RCA yel./red/wht like the ones on the DVD) to hook to the tv from the sat./dig. box. If you get a signal then the sat./dig box is ok. If not the Sat./dig box is not sending a signal and is either defective or needs to be rebooted (unplug wait 5 min try again).
2 – If you are using standard cable or antenna (source) if possible check that the source is good by connecting to another TV. Otherwise try running the source into a VCR and then out to the TV using video inputs (RCA yel./red/wht like the ones on the DVD) and then selecting the appropriate input. Try seeing if the VCR plays using standard CH3 (or CH4)
If the VCR plays on video input but not when connected to CH3 (CH4) then the tuner of the TV may be defective – see if you can use the VCR to change channel using the VCR remote. Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!
when the screen becomes snowy, it means that something in the cable box is being overheated. what you should do is take a small desk fan and hold it beside the cable box. this has happened many times when my family has played on their xbox 360, and the desk fan solved this problem. i hope that this helps!
I would think that the signal board would be more suspect than the hyper board for the symptoms you're describing. However I would recommend getting the service manual and doing some troubleshooting rather than just replacing circuit boards.
A snowy video indicates that your input signal is relatively weak. On the other hand, a noisy picture is when there are too much interference is super imposing on the video.
Snowy picture comes about when the signal coming in the RF INput (Ant/Cable) at the back of the unit is below a certain level. If this is the case, then it is not a problem with your TV but rather your aerial (antenna) or the cable from your provider. A way to verify that it is the ant/cable that is the cause and not a defective TV/tuner is to hook up an old VCR set to Ch. 3 or 4 to the RF IN of your TV using a short 75 ohms coaxial cable terminated at both ends with FP-5 connector. Play a known clear good tape and set your TV to Ch. 3 or 4 as the case maybe. If the picture is relatively clearer, better, then you have just confirmed that it is indeed your aerial or your cable (provider) that needs looking into. If on the other hand, the VCR signal is also snowy then chances are that you have a problem with the input stage of your TV including possibly your tuner.
For your aerial problem, antenna orientation or replacing with a higher gain antenna might help solve the snowy signal. For your cable problem, you have to call-in for service from your cable provider. If it is a TV problem, your best course would be to seek the services of a qualified TV technician since this involve electronic circuitry analysis, diagnosis and possible component replacements.
Additionally, you may try looking for any loose connection, loose grounding, broken wire or anything out of the ordinary in your connections.
