This morning, while the TV was on, a noise started coming from the back of it. It sounded like the fan, so I popped the back panel off the TV and located it. With this panel off, I can see the fan, and the lamp, so I disconnected the power to the fan and started the TV back up to see if the fan was the problem. The noise continued, so I'm wondering if there are two fans, or if something else could be causing the noise.
Any ideas?
thanks
It's probably the color wheel.
Here's a good article about it.

There is a noise coming from the back of the TV. It sounds like the fan is making a very loud noise when it comes on and goes off. It won't even stop when we turn the TV off. Any idea how serious a problem this is?

So after a month on back order, my new color wheel finally arrived. I put it in, put everything back together, and now when I turn it on the lamp light blinks on the front :( I had everything apart and set safely in another room so I don't think I damaged the lamp. I've rechecked all the connections and everything seems to be in order but the lamp light still blinks. The small fan starts up, but the larger fan by the color wheel doesn't, but I think that's because the lamp doesn't come on. Any ideas?
Well I fixed the lamp problem. I was digging around on this site and found a comment about that copper ribbon cable that comes off the color wheel. It turns out I had it backwards, and flipping it around has fixed the problem.
New problem - The color wheel is replaced, the ribbon cable is inserted properly, and the TV now turns on. The problem now is the entire image is about 1" too low. There is a black space at the top of the screen and the cable information that displays at the bottom is chopped off. It looks like I just need to shift the entire image up an inch, any information on how to do this?
