The D3100 is newer, for what it's worth. It has LiveView and video capabilities.

The D3100 is intended for beginners, the D80 for more experienced users. The D3100 is easier to learn, the D80 is easier to use once you learn it. The D3100 is lighter, the D80 is more rugged.

The other major difference is that the D3100 does not have an autofocus motor, depending on the lens to have one. This means that some lenses (those not designated AF-S by Nikon) will not autofocus on the D3100 while they will on the D80.

The ultimate decision is up to you. Only you can decide which features are most important to you. Also, if you can, try to get your hands on the actual cameras. See which one feels more comfortable to you.

Was in a similar situation a month ago. (Eventually, I bought a Canon). However, if you really want a Nikon, you can see the comparison results (D80 vs 3100) by using the search keywords 'compare D80 D3100' in Google. Read the results carefully. Or, you can simply go here: http://camera.downloadatoz.com/comparison,nikon-d3100,vs,nikon-d80.html

Camera lens is stuck in open position and even if I remove the batteries and replace them, there's no activity whatsoever. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

This is a problem you will not be able to fix yourself. Contact the Nikon USA repair depot nearest you for a repair estimate. Go to the Nikon website for the closest one. Once you have an estimate, you can decide if it pays to have it repaired. Remember, prices have come down since you bought your L110.

Replaced charged battery, turn camera on no response, camera lens is extended, unable to turn on camera, changed battry twince, still no reponse.

if the battery you have put is ocnfirmed to have voltage/current in the desired level then the camera is having a power fault within the set and must be opened up. I would advice that this job be done by a Nikon authorised serivce, get and estimate and decide.

I want to purchase nikon p90 . I wanna ask that is there any problem in this model of nikon.

Hello, the nikon P90 is a great buy for photography enthusiasts and this make and model is in between point and shoot and DSLR when it comes to features. The lense retracts up to 24x great for taking macro shots and very user friendly. No known issues so far with this model and a great starter kit when you decide to upgrade DSLR.

I was told my nikon D50 needs a shutter replacement. Is this problem common for D50's? Trying to decide if it should be fixe.

Nikon shutters are typically good for 100,000 trips...do you think you've taken that many pics?

Magic Lantern Guide D300s - Is there one available?

Not sure, but if you are looking for guidance on Nikons, the best resource I've found is Ken Rockwell, a pro photographer who has a great website. He tests and reviews just about every Nikon camera out there.

He does ask for donations to help him out, but you can decide how much you think his advice is worth!

Here's the link for the D300.

Nikon D70 Shutter Problem

I have a Nikon D70 which failed completely but exhibited similar symptoms.
I was fortunate in that I had taken out 3 years free warranty at the point of purchase and therefore saved the £90 (sterling) repair cost.
Nikon cameras are designed to be robust and should give a lifetime's service. Most should give 150,000 shutter actuations.
There is a piece of free software available on the Web that will tell you how many actuations were recorded on your recent photos.
Unfortunately, in the fast moving world of digital cameras, the value of a 2nd user older camera is very low.
You need to decide if you were outgrowing this camera body and want to replace it with something better or whether you would be lost without it. My repair took more than 1 month and I was not able to take any photos during his time.
I hope this helps.
