Vacuum will not start in upright position. After vacuuming in normal position, we move the handle to upright position to use the hose vacuum and the vacuum stops. and will not start in upright position. If you let the vacuum sit for awhile then it will start, but only if you pull the handle back

SOURCE: No suction in upright position

Check the adapters at the bottom. They're supposed to move cleanly when you lower the handle. It's pretty obvious if there's an air gap when you lower the handle, and you should hear the suction in the air gap.

And...call Dyson...their support is great!

SOURCE: Vacuum lock

I just solved my own problem. I'm not much of a technical writer and I'm sure I don't know the proper terms but nonetheless...

...When standing behind the vacuum, as if using it, just above the right rear wheel is a detachable elbow for the air flow. The housing next to the wheel, wherein the elbow fits down into, is one segment of the problem the other segment, with which it may have come out of alignment, is the main front cover of the vacuum head. With the vacuum upside down in my lap I simply rolled the two components back into a position so that the front cover slides under the housing instead of bumping into it on top.

I hope this solves your problem too.

SOURCE: beater bar on Dyson upright won't turn when handle is lowered

I have finally fixed my sister's dyson dc 15 beater bar problem. It was just 2 tiny broken wires connect to circuit board lead to the beater bar. The wires broke where they go through the black rubber gommet. You need a torx screwdriver tx 15 to remove 2 plastic covers to access the wires. When looking at the front of the vacuum, the gray covers located on the right side of the vacuum. 1 big cover with a black rubber gasket and other small gray cover is on the rotating ball area.
This my new year resolution is to warn people not to buy Dyson vacuum cleaner ( Junk) design to break down! Shame on you Dyson!!!! Save your money find good old vacuum cleaner with metal parts.

OLD IS IN NEW IS JUNK!

Happy New Year!

Renting a condo and cannot get the vacuum out of upright position so that I can vacuum. It is a DC17 animal absolute. Thank you

Hold handle backwards at 30 to 45 degree angle and press front edge of base with foot, there are two indents for foot, 1 on each side. You need to make sure that the hose moves forward so that it will collect from the brush. Hope this helps

Why when I Pull out handle to use edging attachment, suction stops?

Make sure that the vacuum cleaner is in the fully upright position as there is a slide 'gate' thet directs suction to either the vacuum head or to the handle section depending as to which section you wish to use. In the upright position, you shoud be able to hear the vacuum at the handle where the attachments connect. If you still have vacuum at floor level, check the action of this gate. The actuating mechanism may be broken. Cheers Bob

I have a dyson 07. Vacuum works fine, great suction using the hose. How do I switch to using the carpet vacuum. (I lost my instruction book) Thanks

If this unit has a suction hose built in to the handle, the carpet vacuum should start working after you return the handle hose to the proper position.

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

The brush control is designed to switch the brush bar off automatically when you stand the machine back into the upright position. It is designed this way to protect any delicate floor surfaces when you have the machine switched on and upright and when you are using the hose.

If the brush control should be in the centre position and move forward to the "on" position when you release the head. If it is not doing this, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards

THe vacuum won't divert from hose to carpet

Turn the vacuum off, return the handle to upright locked position.

Then securely fit hose into the hose holder.

Then depress lever and engage handle into non-locked position, and turn on vacuum on "carpet"

There will always be some airflow through the hose, but when the hose is parked it creates more airflow to the carpet head

Hose has no suction when used with attachments.

Hi there it's SmartAlec from NelsonVacuums.com.au here. There are 2 possible causes either there is a blockage in the hose or there is a problem with the valve that lets you select floors / tools. If you remove the hose and lower the handle to the vacuuming normal position while looking in the hole the tube used to plug into you should see a gate type part moving. If it is still you need a new valve. I can supply this part if need be, if you feel confident to fit it that is. Regards Alec

My wind tunnelhas no suction when using the beater brush. Something is stuck. Can I fix it?

If the hose has suction in the upright position, and the floor has no suction in the normal use position, check for obstruction in the dirt path from the agitator cavity, thru the short hose, into the lower handle.

Brush won't spin when position of handle changes

The belt for this machine is very specific and only one size fits. It is not uncommon for vac shops to sell the wrong belt because the proper belt is not available from normal supply houses, so they will substitute something they think will work.

Also, assuming you do have the right belt, check the tension arm that drops down on the v-belt when the handle is brought back. This arm has a wheel/bearing with a plastic "tire" or trim that rolls on the belt to tighten it. Sometimes, this tire cracks and falls off and then the remaining bearing won't have the necessary tension to tighten up the belt.

Carpet Height Adjusment

In addition to the tab that contacts the bottom of the slider, there are 2 protusions on the adjustable wheel plate that move through holes in the housing, but only when the handle is tilted to begin vacuuming. The wheel plate has a spring that forces the tab against the slider. As the handle is moved to the upright position, the protusions move back through the holes, taking the tab away from the slider and the wheel plate locks in its highest position. Therefore, the position of the slider has no effect while the handle is upright and locked. Hope this helps.
