I've just replaced all of the ink cartridges in my Epson Stylus CX3810 and the only colors I get are Black and Cyan. The Magenta and Yellow do nothing. I've tried printing things with those colors in them. I've tried removing and shaking the cartridges. I tried cleaning the contact points on the cartridges. Still nothing. Like i said... the black and cyan work great so the printer is working. It's sad that I work on Helicopters and I can't figure out a printer. :)
The cartridges are brand new and show "Full" on the printer ink cartridge status link. I don't think you can refill these cartridges. I've taken old one to professional ink cartridge refilling points and they can't do anything for me. So I buy new ones everytime. This is the first time this has happened. I thought it might be the drivers in my computer could be corrupted. The same thing happens with multiple computers. The cartridges are brand new and show "Full" on the printer ink cartridge status link. I don't think you can refill these cartridges. If this is a color printer, then you cannot use it without the "Black" cartridge.
Most printer manufacturers will pull from the "Black" ink to print black on color images. They do this to save on creating a "processed black" from the color inks.
Just curious, are you using a "CMYK" system? (Cyan, Magenta,Yellow and Black inks)
Hi, If you go to your printer properties, there should be a setting whereby you have to select the option to "PRINT USING BLACK CARTRIDGE ONLY". Make sure this option is selected, otherwise your printer will use ALL colors even if you only print black. Let me know if you need any further assistance. Best wishes, Graemevm
Hi there. The reason for your problem is that the colour cartridge contains cyan, magenta and yellow ink, plus a black cartridge of course. All the other myriad colours are produced by mixing these four basic colours. So, if you print red, it requires ink from both the magenta and yellow cartridges. Thus if your red produces a yellow print, it means your magenta is not printing. This can be due to a number of reasons, mainly an empty or faulty magenta cartridge or blocked magenta print nozzles.
If you wish me to help you with sorting out the lack of magenta, please post a new comment to this effect.
sounds lke your yellow nozzle not working properly...had same issue on lexmark printer, ended up geting this epson...learnt from my mistakes...perhaps it ran dry? or you left the yellow cartridge out longer than the rest....only you might know what happened
I'm sorry to say, but I just spoke to epson and the printer will notprint unless all cartridges have ink. The black ink only option is only used to extend the life of color cartriges. Just another way for them to get you to buy things you don't need.
