The problem is that XPinstallation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on adisk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then,XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP. The FIX. Go into the BIOS anddisable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is aIDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows hasbeen installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver),then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

What is the nutral position sinle jumper settings

Jumper Settings: The Western Digital hard drive is factory set for single drive installation. Western Digital hard drives are shipped with a jumper in the neutral storage position (across pins 5 and 3) for future dual drive use. If you are installing the Western Digital hard drive as the only hard drive in your system, leave the jumper in the neutral storage position. Jumpers are not required for single hard drive installations.

Western Digital HDD WD5000AAKX reads slow..

What do you mean by slow? Compared to an SSD the HDD would obviously be slower. If you're running your OS and everything off that HDD, try defragmenting it. Please run benchmark tests (e.g. Crystal Mark) and tell me the results you get! Typically you should get 120MB/s for your type of hard drive.

Wd5000AAkX no jumper diagram need to put it as a slave

There are normally no jumper settings on a SATA HDD as you can only connect one drive per SATA port, hence every drive is a Master on its own port.
You can set Boot Priority within the BIOS settings if you have more than one drive attached.

Take Three: I have an older Maxtor Hard DriveTake Two: I have an older Maxtor Hard Drive (Model 90645D3). I need to transfer some files from it (Win98SE) to new hard drive (WinXP Pro). I asked earlier and...

Jumper off will set the drive to slave. If you can connect both drives to the same ribbon cable with the master on the end & the slave to the second connector. Look at your bios as win is booting up to see if shows the drive as slave, you will not be able to copy windows as a operating system off of the drive, but should be able to copy files.

Good luck on your endevors.

Wd800jd sata hard drive not recognized in bios on boot up

Hi, A couple of ideas: 1. There are 3 versions of this motherboard: Dragon Plus, V1.0 & V2.0, perhaps your BIOS needs an update to be able to recognize the new HD. This of course would require flashing; 2. There are two variations of a WD SATA hard drive: Serial ATA amd Serial ATA II; 3. Re Jumper settings: the eight-pin jumper block is only used to enable power management on the drive. There are no master/slave settings since there is only one drive per cable; 4. If you are fresh installing Windows on it, you need to press F6 when asked by the Windows Installer and follow on-screen instructions. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turn up or should you need further information.
