Super general sgw720 washing machine can't spin. when starting for wash it shows 42 min.it stops 27th min.then just rotate tub it starts and again 17th min same issue.we set only spin same issue

i don't know. i repaired same condition on different washer. it was the lid safety switch/pin contact. i tested
by pushing pencil in hole where safety pin goes.
DO NOT USE MACHINE WITHOUT WORKING LID CLOSED SAFETY LOCK. you could break an arm / hand.
i slid top off washing machine and moved lid switch back so ' lid pin ' would contact safety switch. if this is the cause, you may need to replace this low cost switch.

My washer stalls at the end of the wash cycle and I can hit the lid with my hand to restart it

Sounds like your lid safety switch is bad. Replace the switch. If this is a unit with a hidden lid switch, left rear, you may only need tighten your lid hinge screws.

Will not agitate or spin water out

The most common cause of this is a defective washer lid safety switch, if the washer doesn't sense the lid is closed nothing will happen other than it will fill with water, no wash cycle or spin. The lid switch is accessed by paying your washer top off with a putty knife, it is held down by friction spring clips, the lid switch is under the top, you will see it. You can obtain a replacement part from Sears Direct for about $15.00 US

Lid not locking

Replace top lid switch possibly. It is a safety switch, if you have tried to push down lid hard and does not trigger, then lid switch might need replacing. It is a cheap price. Under 20 bucks most appliance part stores

Won't start when cover closed

your lid safety switch is shot, you need to remove 2 side control panel covers that pop off, then remove 2 screws that are under here, then control panel will separate from top to let you unplug lid switch connection to the control panel, then open the top cover by popping clips inward on the 2 front corners with a putty knife or something flat like this between the top and front covers, then raise top up and lean back against the wall there you can access this switch to replace it,this switch is designed to shut off unit if lid is raised during spin cycle for your safety

How do I get to the lid safety switch to replace it? model # 24722300

The controls have hinges. You flip up the controls and then pop the S-clips so that you can remove the case. Their are several variations of the design2000 washer console. This video shows how to access that switch from various machines:

Have to trip washer lid safety switch with something more substantial than little 'plunger' attached to the washer lid to get washer to drain and spin during rinse cycle. do i need to replace the safety...

removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Newer model Whirlpool / Kenmore washers use a Lid Switch as a safety device. Unless the switch senses that the lid on the washer is closed, the washer will neither agitate nor spin.

Older models only used the switch during the spin cycle.

Try to bypass the Lid Switch by removing the Console and jumping the two outermost pins on the switch.

This is a Whirlpool PDF on how these washers operate. It has a diagram on jumping the switch as well as a detailed section on how the transmission works.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

It also has a troubleshooting guide.

To bypass the switch, you only have to disconnect the power to the washer, tilt the console back, unplug the switch and using an short piece of insulated wire, jump the two outermost contacts on the connector coming from the console and plug the washer back in.

Following is a description of how to gain access to the console and how to remove the cabinet if necessary.

With the jumper in place, try to re-start the washer.

If it works, the Lid Switch is a relatively inexpensive part and only requires you to access the console and remove the cabinet to replace it.

It comes as a complete unit and you can't replace just the plunger.

Trying to replace the lid switch

Did you unplug from the wall? Safety first.

You should be able to slide the wires off the terminals. Or you may have one that has a molded pulg that has a safety retainer clip that has to be depressed to unplug it.

Same with the switch, it should have a retaining clip that must be depressed to remove it. OR it has a screw holding the assembly on.
