If your washer won't fill with water, but works in the spin cycle then the washer is sensing that water is in the tub. If there isn't water in the tub, then it is probably a sensor. If there is water but the spin cycle doesn't get it out, then look at the pump or control board.

you are correct, the "leak" was from the over flow, and the "no spin" were all caused by the incorrect level indication. could not blow out the tubing so I replaced it...everything works fine now. thanks for your help!

Check the water level switch and the plastic tubing to the switch.
Sometimes soap scum stops up the plastic hose and the water level switch does not close to send power to the timer.
If the plastic hose is good and the water level fills and stops replace the water level switch.
