Samsung RF265AA Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator Logo
Anonymous Posted on Jun 08, 2011

The model # is RF25VABWP - I was cleaning the refrigerator and had the door open for some time and the lights went out. I checked and replaced the bulbs with new ones that work in other outlets but they would not go on. I set the quick cool and the temperature in the frig was 54 it cool to 36 but the lights still don't work. Do I need to reset something or is there something wrong with the lighting. The light in the freezer is working. I have had the appliance less than a year.

The lights will go off after a certain time period; that is built into the control. But if the lights never worked even after the door has been closed for a time, it is probably the light switch, which is in the "throat moulding" or "breaker strip", whatever you want to call it. That it the plastic strip surrounding the door when in the closed position. That should be under warranty.

Exact same thing happened to me. I tried pushing the two black buttons up but no help. What' is this all about? Such a simple thing should not break like this. The manual was no help - Samsung sucks!

Top Refrigerator not cooling and light not working

  1. Check the power source: Make sure the refrigerator is properly plugged in and that the outlet is working.
  2. Check the circuit breaker: If the circuit breaker has tripped, reset it and see if the refrigerator starts cooling again.
  3. Check the light bulb: If the light bulb is burned out, replace it with a new one of the same wattage.
  4. Check the door gasket: If the door gasket is damaged or not sealing properly, it could cause the refrigerator to stop cooling. Check the gasket for any tears, cracks, or gaps and replace it if necessary.
  5. Check the temperature control: Make sure the temperature control is set to the proper setting.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it's best to call a professional appliance repair service to diagnose and fix the problem.
Regarding the beeping, if your refrigerator has an alarm system, it may be beeping because the door was left open for an extended period of time, causing the temperature inside to rise. In this case, simply close the door and the beeping should stop. However, if the beeping continues even after the door is closed, it could indicate a more serious issue and a professional appliance repair service should be called.

GE refrigerator constant irregular beeping

It looked like your model does NOT have an external ice/water control panel which has caused beeping problems on some models.
For your model I would try the following....
Door Alarm
The main cause of a beeping GE unit is an open refrigerator door. Some models are equipped with an internal door alarm, which trips when the door remains open for 3 minutes or longer.
One way to check this .... put your smartphone in the refrigerator on video mode and close the door. The light should go off with the door shut. If the video shows that the light stayed on when the door was closed ... then it reinforces that something is wrong with the switch/alarm. Repeat video for the freezer.
Door Seal
If beeping persists after the freezer or refrigerator door is closed, the door seals may be blocked or so dirty that the internal door alarm is tripped. The seals can be cleaned with a soft cloth and warm, soapy water. Also, an item inside the refrigerator may be preventing the door from fully closing.
Cooling System
Reactivating the refrigerator's cooling system includes a beeping noise. When the refrigerator is off, the "Off/Off" light appears on the door display. When the "Adjust Freezer" and "Energy Saver" buttons are held down for approximately 3 seconds at the same time the beep sounds and the "Off/Off" indicator disappears. Hold the "Ice Off" and "Freezer" buttons to activate the cooling system inside of the fresh food compartment. A beep signals the system is activated. The beeping should stop after the cooling system turns on. If it fails to stop, try unplugging the power cord to reset the connection.
Power
The GE's internal door alarm can get stuck. Try unplugging the refrigerator for about 10 seconds and then plug it back in. If the beeping continues, the internal door alarm might be broken or defective. Contact the manufacturer or a technician for further assistance. One way to check this .... put your smartphone in the refrigerator on video and close the door. The light should go off with the door shut. If the video shows that the light stayed on when the door was closed ... then it reinforces that something is wrong with the switch/alarm.

Good luck on your troubleshooting!

The door was left open more than 5 minutes, the alarm went off and the lights went out

Some newer refrigerators have a timer that turns off the light after a given amount of time. The alarm may be there to alert you that the door is open.

Why won't interior lights go off

Bad door switch. Replace it or just ignore it. Use LED light so it will not produce heat in the frig.

Left door open on Sub zero model 650

It went into self protection mode. Just leave it closed and when the compressor cools down enough, it will start. Once the ref starts to cool, the lights and such will come back on.

All of this assumes that no failure was caused by the long run times when the door was open
