I am getting a "Memory

  • Anonymous Jun 07, 2011

Thanks ZJL! I just found out that this camera will not accept a memory card larger than 2GB. I was trying to use a 4GB card. They don't tell you that in the manual.
Thanks again for trying to help!

Sorry to say friend but your memory card is corrupted. Now if you want to recover your data than you have to connect the card using card reader to the system and scan the card using good data recovery software called "kernel for fat and ntfs. Otherwise if there is not much important thing on card than you need to just format the card

Its a very common problem with S400,S410 and some others.

As a case study, see the following error message on the Canon IXUS 130 when trying to view some photos previously stored in the memory card SDHC

"Memory Card Error"

Every single photo stored on the memory card becomes inaccessible after the above error message. In addition, no more photos can be stored on the memory card. In short, the card can not be read or written.

Cause:
The above error message that makes all the pictures inaccessible is mainly caused due to corruption of the memory card. Reasons why you are responsible for the above error message is virus infection, interrupted read / write operation, and human error.

Resolution:
The resolution for the above error message is the format of memory card into the camera. The process erases all data previously stored and allows you to save the new data. While the format is a good resolution for users who do not require the old data, it is fatal to users such as photographers, detective agencies, etc, to save critical data on your memory card. However, the formatted data recovery day is now an easy process. It is therefore necessary to use an advanced part of third parties. A tool for image recovery is readily available on the Internet by one click.

Data Recovery is an application of high-end recovery that recovers data from almost all formats SDHC Card, XD and MMC. The read-only photo recovery tool also allows you to restore data in the defined location. The software runs on Mac OS X and Windows.

Hope helps.

Thanks for your response, but it still did not help! I am aware of the info provided. The problem is I cannot get the "Format" button to work in "Setup". I can see the word "Format" but when I click the down button, it just jumps over "Format" key. Thanks

4gb kingston canon ixus 50

The IXUS 50 works with MMC and SD cards. Your new 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible and will not work. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

Canon PowerShot SD400 No memory card message, but there is a memory card installed. Tried multiple memory cards and got the same message. Made sure the memory card was locked.

There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". Some include trying to use a 4GB SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. Others include problems with the tiny slide switch on the side of the card, or the electrical contact switch internal to the camera. The problem may also arise from simple formatting problems if the card has never been formatted in the camera (note that this will also erase the card). Troubleshooting tips for this problem may be found at this link. By the way, if you're using 4GB or larger SDHC cards, they won't work with the SD400 as that camera was made before SDHC came out. Consider 2GB or less standard SD cards only. They're very inexpensive these days on Amazon..

I have a Canon SD400 Powershot digital camera. It

First, make sure your camera can accept SDHC cards. If the camera says the card is locked, move the slide switch on the side of the card.

I have a canon powershot SD400 elph. Camera menu

I'm guessing you bought a new 4GB SDHC card. Although it looks exactly the same as a standard SD card, the format the card uses is very different. Unfortunately your camera was designed before the SDHC format came out. Sorry, but a SDHC card will not work with your camera.

You'll need to use standard SD cards (usually those 2GB or less). But if you really want to use a 4GB card, do a Google search for 4GB SD "non HC", with the non HC in quotes. Believe Transcend makes one.

Hi. My Canon Powershot sd400 is telling me there is a " memory card error"...and "Card Locked!". Any idea how to fix this? Heidi

Hi!
You have to unlock your memory card. All memory cards have this small lock mechanism on the side.

Make sure that the slider is on the UNLOCK position. If it's already on the UNLOCK position and you are still getting the same error message, try to set it to LOCK, then set it back to UNLOCK position.

I hope that helps.

Good luck and have a nice day!

Do you have another memory card? can you try the stock canon card and see if it does it with that memory card? How do the contacts on the battery pack look? can you clean them? scratch them up a bit with somthing pointed.
