This feature used to work. I noticed last week however that the date was not imprinted on my printed pictures. I checked the user's guide and went into the setup to enable it and as I scrolled down the menu list it jumped over the date stamp option not allowing access to this feature that I had just 6 weeks ago.

This Camera doesn't have the feature to superimpose the date on the pictures. By using the supplied Picture Motion Browser Software, you can print or save the pictures with date. Refer the following link to use the supplied Picture Motion Browser Software to print or save the pictures with date.
In order to imprint the date stamp on photos, the photo size (L, M1, M2, M3, S, Postcard) must be set to Postcard, and in the recording menu the "Date Stamp" option must be set to Date or Date & Time.
When you turn on your camera, press the menu button. That will bring up the screen that has the orange buttons at the top (Capture) (Setup) arrow down using the buttons on the far right side. The down button will be the dame button that you use to delete pictures with. When you get to the botton of the page continue arrowing down and that will bring up another page. Arrow down until you get to the botton there are only 3 items on this page and the bottom item will say the following:
Date imprint ON
Press your enter button (ok button) and up will pop ON or OFF.
Arrown down to the OFF and press enter and that will remove the date imprint from your pictures.

Dear Bryx, Unfortunately there is no way to have the nikon d80 print the date directly on the images, but the information is stored to the EXIF data on every image.
It is not possible to embed the date/time stamp as part of the image itself with the XT. The date/time information is stored as part of the exif information stored in the image at the time of shooting.
However, you do have a couple options for printing images with the date/time stamped onto the image:
If you use the direct print capabilities of the camera when connected to a compatible printer (PictBridge, CP, or DirectPrint are all supported), you are able to enable an option that will print the image with the date/stamp printed on the image. There are also software packages that you can use that will do the same when printing from the computer.
And finally, it is possible, with some photo finishers, to request that they imprint the shooting date/time on the image. This will vary from photo finisher to photo finisher, and the will be some who can't, or won't, do this.
