My laptop's hinge is broken but the connectivity is still on. Can I replace only the outer case? If so where and how much would it cost?

Hinges would most likely have to be replaced, along with possibly the bottom case of the laptop. Hinges are usually sold in a pair, costing around $100, the bottom case if its needed, usually costs around $70.

i would advise you to take it to a technician who specializes in laptop repair (Your local Staples may be able to help you), and get a quote on repairing it. I would expect labour for that job to be around $100-$150 as well (if you're not doing the repair yourself).

You should google search online as to instructions/how to guides. Type in "laptop hinges repair guide" and you should get good results.

As for buying hinges, I would search on ebay or online for hinges AFTER finding a good guide (the guide should tell you what you need). The replacement hinges should not be too costly assuming you only need to replace those.

This will probably entail taking your laptop case out, so I would recommend checking into dust cleaning from your laptop/risks just incase dust gets inside when you take off the outer case. But a guide should be more useful than my speculations about your problem/need.

There are 2 set of cable that run from the display to the monitor, be very careful with it. In most cases, to remove these cables you need to disassemble the whole laptop. Now, since you are on Y changing the hinges, I think you can do it, just don't pull on the monitor too hard, and it needs to be place on a flat surface very close to the laptop. It's not that hard, you just need to be careful, that's all.

And you question is? Sounds like you need a new laptop.

This happened to me twice, i have Eee PC 1225B. after i replace the bottom case, again it's broken at the same place.... and it cost about USD 49 for replacing it. it's dissapointed...

there are four screws holding the hinge on to the machine. two are visible in the hinge from the front but there are two inside the machine on the left side .turn off the power and water supplies drag the machine out from its place tilt machine back to allow a gap between the drum and cabinet then using a star shaped driver also called a Torx driver remove the two screw from the hinge and remove it.when refitting a magnetic driver is a great help to prevent dropping the screws into the machine a torch is advisable to see what you are doing I hope this helps

You can change the lower case but I would like to know that why do you want to change because there is some known issue with the hinges of this model so you can contact to customer care and get it replaced if this is a hinges issue otherwise it will be costing you nearly 5000 Rs.
