Bad motor or you need to remove the shipping bracket that immobilizes the motor during shipping.
Call the Fan manufacturer if your past the 30 day department return window, but still within the one year manufacturer warranty. If you paid by credit card-they extend the warranty an extra year for you. Also, check your wiring to make sure you connected black/blue wires together to the black wire coming from the ceiling and the white wire to the white wire coming from you ceiling.

Go out and spend the money for a Hunter Fan. They have good ratings and customer satisfaction.

SOURCE: fan making humming noise and wont turn

Hi,
The fan motor cannot turn because either the bearings are dry and turning hard or the motor has worn out...You can try to take it apart and lub the bearing with WD-40 and a light oil... it may work.

I have an old circular floor fan, that hums and wont come on, then suddenly it comes on?

You need to clean it and oil the bushings. When this doesn't solve the problem, change the start capacitor. If it continues to hum or make noise, replace the bushings. A repair technician may be helpful.

Zeith lg dlp 3110v00139b how to clean tv fans making noise wont turn on

It may not be the fans if this model uses a color wheel--fans can be cleaned with air to remove all dirt or dust(rest of set as well for that matter)

If possible I would remove cover and try to locate where the sound you are hearing is actually coming from.

Humming noise when turned on

The montherboard doesn't have anything that would make a humming noise. In all likelyhood it's the fan that sits on top of teh processor. It could be normal, but might need to be replaced or cleaned.

38CKC036 Air Conditioner: outside fan will not come on makes a humming noise...

If the humming is your compressor running (feel the large copper line going into the unit, it should feel cold aftter a few minutes of run time) then the fan motor or the capacitor or both need to be replaced, check for voltage to the fan motor when the unit is "humming" if it has voltage and will not start replace the fan motor and the capacitor. hope this helps.

Compac Presario F700 makes constant humming noise

Sounds like its the fan . The more demand you place on the system makes it run hotter so the fan speed automatically increases to compensate

Humming noise

If you are using a dimmer switch to operate the fan instead of a fan speed controller, that is the cause of the humming. If you turn down the speed to the lowest setting and the hum gets louder, then your controller needs to be replaced.
