When the computer boots, it display bluescreen

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command. If after running the Check Disk Utility you still have problems you will probably need to reinstall windows. Look into doing a Repair Install so that you don't lose your data.

UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME ERROR ON GATEWAY GM5045E WITHOUT RECOVERY OR WINDOWS XP DISC.

An unmountable boot volume error suggests that you may have a hard disk failure or at least some corruption to the hard disk which the system uses to boot Windows XP.
To try to resolve this problem you would need to use a specialist boot CD to try to repair the disk errors. One such disk is Hiren's Boot CD which can be downloaded as a CD image file (.ISO) then would need to be burnt on to a blank CD then the computer booted from this CD.
On the initial Hiren's boot menu, select DOS programs, then select Disk tools before selecting HDAT2 to perform the disk repair actions.
HDAT2 can take some time to complete depending on the size of your internal disk drive and the number of bad sectors or other errors encountered - the tool will attempt to repair bad sectors by reading, verifying, writing and re-reading / verifying the data.
If the disk can be recovered, then you may be lucky and the system will be able to boot but otherwise, you may still need to do some further recovery work for the operating system, in which case you may need a Windows install CD or other recovery CD media.

If HDAT2 finds a lot of unrecoverable errors then you should seriously consider replacing the drive - you should be able to recover data from the old drive using other tools on the Hiren's Boot CD, including booting the CD mini-XP environment and using the tools there too.

Blue Screen doesn't load Operating System. I beleive there is a software conflict when my daughter downloaded an application she needed for university

If you are getting 'Uncorrectable data Error or Media' for your internal hard drive then it is likely that you have a disk problem rather than a software conflict caused by anything your daughter downloaded.
If the Dell diagnostics provide no solution, then you would need to use a specialist boot CD to try to repair the disk errors. One such disk is Hiren's Boot CD which can be downloaded as a CD image file (.ISO) from http://www.hirensbootcd.org/ then would need to be burnt on to a blank CD then the laptop booted from this CD.
On the initial Hiren's boot menu, select DOS programs, then select Disk tools before selecting HDAT2 to perform the disk repair actions.

If the disk can be recovered, then you may be lucky and the system will be able to boot but otherwise, you may still need to do some further recovery work for the operating system, in which case you may need your Windows install or recovery CD media.

YIKES! Need serious help. A program called "data

Hi there.

Data Recovery is computer optimization program that displays fake critical security errors and reports registry, hard drive problems that do not even exist. You can remove this by going in SAFE MODE.

  • Restart your computer and as soon as your computer turns on hit the F8 key (repeatedly) until a screen comes up
  • Choose Start computer in SAFE MODE with network support
  • Download this free removal tool for Data Recovery
  • Extract it
  • Launch
  • Click on the delete button
Data Recovery will be removed from your system in 10s. Restart your computer when it's finished. This should fix the problem.

Let me know what happens. Thank you!

Got a backup?

If not, download a Linux Live CD. Boot your machine with it, save all your data to an external drive and then do a complete disk format and re-install. That will be quicker in the long run.

Not sure about that PC, but on Dell, for example, you hit CTRL-F10 (I think) at power-on and it gives you the option of reinstalling the OS from the recovery partition (wiping any unbacked-up data in the process).,,Gateway is probably similar.

The Boot/BCD issue means your 'Boot Configuration Data' is hosed.

HOW TO SOLVE VFP FILE CURRUPT WHEN POWER FAILURE

At times, you may view that your MS Visual FoxPro 9.0 database is behaving abnormally. Some of the abnormal symptoms could be an error message while opening any database table, invalid characters in place of pre-defined values, and and more. The main reason for abnormal behavior of the database is its corruption due some logical crash. Few common reasons for corruption of MS Visual FoxPro 9.0 database are abnormal termination, faulty network devices, simultaneous modifications, conflicting third-party software, and incompatible service packs.
To overcome such database corruption scenarios, the user can use an up-to-date backup and perform restoration. However, restoration fails in cases where the user either forgets to create a database or the database backup itself gets damaged. In such cases, the database users can use a third-party DBF File Repair application to repair his/her corrupted database.
To illustrate the above case, consider a real-time scenario wherein you execute a query to modify your MS Visual FoxPro 9.0 database. While the query was performing the modification, the system shutdown due to power failure. However, the next time you tried to mount the database, you encountered an error message that did not allow you to access the database records. Moreover, the same error message appears every time you try to access the database.
Cause:
The root cause for the error message is MS Visual FoxPro 9.0 database corruption due to improper system shutdown.
Resolution:
The database corruption error message can be surmounted by following the below steps:
Use a complete database backup and perform restoration. However, in case of database backup unavailability, you will need to search for a commercial DBF File Repair utility.
A third-party DBF Repair application uses effective repair techniques to repair logically damaged MS Visual FoxPro 9.0 database and restore it at a new and safe location. The original database during the repair process remains intact. The tool is easy-to-understand and allows even a non-technical person to perform repair.
DBF Recovery Software is a comprehensive solution to repair databases created in MS Visual FoxPro 9.0, MS Visual FoxPro 8.0, and MS Visual FoxPro 7.0. The tool also repairs databases built in dBase III, dBase IV, and dBase V. Supported by Windows 7, Vista, 2003, XP, and 2000, the DBF Repair tool creates a new repaired file that can be attached to existing database.
Tanvi Sharma is a self employed Internet entrepreneur and product reviewer. This DBF Repair utility is extremely useful when the dBase and Foxpro database gets corrupted due to internal program errors, hardware malfunctioning, accidental deletion of data and more. This DBF Repair software repairs all types of database components including table name, column name, column data type, indexes and primary keys.

Bsod when i tried to install win2k

Error Message: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
Explanation:
This Stop message occurs when requested data is not found in memory. The system generates a fault, which normally indicates that the system looks for data in the paging file. In this circumstance, however, the missing data is identified as being located within an area of memory that cannot be paged out to disk. The system faults, but cannot find, the data and is unable to recover. Faulty hardware, a buggy system service, antivirus software, and a corrupted NTFS volume can all generate this type of error.
User Action:
This Stop message usually occurs after the installation of faulty hardware or in the event of failure of installed hardware (usually related to defective RAM, either main memory, L2 RAM cache, or video RAM). If hardware has been added to the system recently, remove it to see if the error recurs. If existing hardware has failed, remove or replace the faulty component. Run hardware diagnostics supplied by the system manufacturer. For details on these procedures, see the owners manual for your computer. Another cause of this Stop message is the installation of a buggy system service. Disable the service and determine if this resolves the error. If so, contact the manufacturer of the system service about a possible update. If the error occurs during system startup, restart your computer, and press F8 at the character-mode menu that displays the operating system choices. At the resulting Windows 2000 Advanced Options menu, choose the Last Known Good Configuration option. This option is most effective when only one driver or service is added at a time. Antivirus software can also trigger this Stop message. Disable the program and determine if this resolves the error. If it does, contact the manufacturer of the program about a possible update. A corrupted NTFS volume can also generate this Stop message. Run Chkdsk /f /r to detect and repair disk errors. Restart the system before the disk scan begins on a system partition. If the hard disk is SCSI, check for problems between the SCSI controller and the disk. Finally, check the System Log in Event Viewer for additional error messages that might help pinpoint the device or driver causing the error. Disabling memory caching of the BIOS might also resolve it. For more troubleshooting information about this Stop message, refer to the Microsoft Knowledge Base at http://support.microsoft.com/support.
