One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your "((MOTHERBOARD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE))" make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error even something as small as a faulty electrical extension or fan lead can cause this problem

follow the troubleshooting procedure a computer needs all of the data and electrical current to travel through every device and to have an end to be able work properly

a motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive if its a flat ribbon 40 pin type IDE replace it this will be the first to fail check all electrical extensions make sure they are securely seated even the cd/dvd floppy drives need to have current go through make sure these drives are working hope this helps also it could be a dirty computer clean all of the dust from your computer you could use a vacuum cleaner but whatever you use make absolutely sure there is no moisture gets to anything in your computer

you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd drive restart your computer then plug them back in this should activate the found new hardware wizard or you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device Click start control panel administrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question mark ? right click you will have options to update driver, roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer
Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
hope this helps

How to format/install SATA 2TB hard drive (BARRACUDA) in Gateway GT5098E, Win XP Media Center Edition 2005?

Windows XP doesn't support SATA. You will need to use a program such as Nlite to integrate sata drivers into a new Windows XP disc. Once you have a disc with sata drivers just boot to the disc and follow the prompts to format the drive.

Is it possible to update the firmware of the HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22LS30 for use with double layered discs?

Install the latest chipset and sata drivers for your motherboard before you hook the sata DVD rom. Try hooking the DVD drive to another sata port, the HDD should be on SATA 1.

Make sure you've installed all the latest critical updates from Windows update. There's no chipset drivers available from Asus which means that the chipset should be supported by XP. Else the chipset in charge of the SATA controller is the SIS 964 chipset and you can find IDE and SATA drivers here : http://www.sis.com/download/. Can't hurt to give them a try but start with Windows update.

Refer to the motherboard manual to clear the BIOS settings (clear the RTC RAM in the manual).

What's the exact model of the hard drive and of the DVD drive ? Go to start => run and type devmgmt.msc. Expand disk drives and CD/DVD drives to find the model ID's.

While you're in the device manager check that there's no tagged device in the list (with a yellow or red icon).

I have no idea what I am doing. I put in a sata driver on my ide motherboard. I bought and hooked up all cords to connect it and now it only opens and closes. It will not install or read any disc. What...

Thank you for your question.

The fact that it opens and closes means you are very close in getting it to work correctly.

Could we take a moment to sort out the technical aspects of what you are asking/saying?

Sata Driver on IDE Motherboard?
A driver is software that is installed to the Operating System. Do you mean a SATA Converter, so that the IDE connection is changed into a SATA connection? If so, let's move on.

The cords that you connected, is it two (usually)red cords with single black ends at each end? If so, let's move on.

If we have got this far, you will have to enter the BIOS settings to ensure that the motherboard has found your new DVD. If you have your manual it will explain which button to push on initial bootup to enter BIOS. It can be "delete", "F2 or F12', manufacturers are not consistent on this. Once in BIOS you need to make sure all options for the IDE drives are on "auto", makes the BIOS do the work for you.

You do not have to install the DVD, the BIOS recognises the new Drive as a Storage Device like a Hard Drive, no drivers needed.

Although the other thing after successfully getting the drive to read discs is you will need to install the optional programmes such as Power DVD for watching movies and Nero for burning DVD?CD's.

Kind regards

Detect the hdd , cann't instal the os. it reset the system

most likely due to the fact that this may be a SATA hard drive and your installation of the operating system does not know how to access this kind of hard drive due to the fact

1. It may not have the latest SATA drivers which you can obtain from your motherboard manufacturers website are not installed onto the operating system disc ( this is called slip streaming the driver onto the operating system disc ) which you can use nLite for www.nliteos.com

2. You do not have IDE mode enabled in the bios / cmos of your motherboard in terms of how the motherboard should access the hard drive - if you have an option for IDE mode as far as how it treats the hard drive then you may not need to do option 1

3. It may be an idea to disable or play around with AHCI and check the sata settings in the bios / cmos on your motherboard.

If you are still having issues then post back.

My dvd rw is not detected

Sounds like you need your manufacturer's SATA drivers.

This problem exists a lot when installing Windows from scratch on SATA hard disks. When you start the installation, Windows prompts you to "load additional drivers". It's at this point you put a floppy disk with the SATA drivers in.

If your install is already working, but just stopped as you say... then you could hunt around the BIOS for a SATA "compatibility" mode, which will get you booting straight away. Install the SATA drivers and you can then put the drive back into normal operation instead of compatibility mode.

This is also the reason why your other hard disk with Windows can see the SATA disk and optical drive... it probably has the SATA drivers installed.
