hi Joe Peckham you need to download the latest from uniden on to you computer. You can copy the download on to the SD card as a file. in order to do the download on the SD card back on to the Trax 353 see if you can upload files from the SD card. Because it has been my experience that you may need to transfer the file download and copy it into a different file type on the SD card. If you still have the getting started tips and tricks man. See what it says about reading files from SD card. My suggestion use a a 4GB SD card. with nothing on it this way you can erase the SD card and Start fresh. Hope this helps. Also btw read the SD card on your computer first to see if the file downloaded.

How do i update map and software data online for my trax 430

Hello.

HOW TO UPGRAGE SOFTWARE ONLINE

If you are used to using an atlas or other map, you probablyalready know that new maps are issued each year because of changes on theroads. The same thing applies to the maps on GPS units. This means that if youhave a GPS unit, you need to update your GPS software regularly to make surethat you have the latest information. Each GPS manufacturer makes softwareupgrades available for GPS unit owners. Here are tools and instruction below
USB cable (as tool)
1 Visit the website forthe manufacturer of your GPS unit, such as Garmin or Magellan.
2 Go to the"Support" section of the site and then the "Downloads"area. This is where the latest upgrades are available for download.
3 Log in if you already havean account or key in the serial number of your GPS unit. Typically you get onefree upgrade on your unit, which is tracked by the serial number, which is whyyou have to enter it or have an account.
4 View the latest softwareupdates once you are logged in or have entered in the serial number. If you areeligible for the free upgrade, you will see it listed with no cost. If not, youwill see a price listed by the upgrade. Prices vary by manufacturer andupgrade, but average around $80 as of 2010.
5 Download the upgrade to yourcomputer or order the upgrade disk. According to CC Electronics & Gadgets, there is no difference between the two upgrade files. If you want to do animmediate update to the unit, you should download the upgrade instead of waitingfor the disk to arrive by mail.
6 Connect your GPS unit toyour computer with the USB cable that came packaged with it. When you do, theGPS update software will launch on your computer. If you have never installedthe GPS software onto your computer, you will need to use the disk that camewith the unit to install it so that it will launch for you.
7 Confirm that you want tosync the unit with the upgrade file that you download, or on the disk if youare using a disk. This will install the upgrade to your GPS unit. When itcompletes, you will get a message on your screen letting you know that it isdone. You can now disconnect the GPS from the computer. Thanks

Can I manually enter gps coordinates into uniden trax_430 gps

The seller LIED! here is the review where it says this feature was disbled.
Both the Trax 436 and 430 have a 4.3 inch widescreen making it easier to see the navigation display than with smaller 3.5 inch units. As there is only a single button (on/off) on the device, all data entry through pressing the touchscreen display. There is predictive text to help with some entry fields. One of the interesting design features alluded to is Safety Mode which disables the touch screen above 10km/h to ensure the driver has their attention on the road ahead.

A second of the interesting design features noted is the simple and advanced navigation interface modes. It makes a lot of sense to disable some more advanced functions, such as navigation to a GPS coordinate, in order to make a simpler, less cluttered menu structure for the average user. Incorporating text-to-speech capability, the Trax units’ voice navigation instructions include street names making it simpler to check one is on track without having to glance away from the road to the GPS unit display.

heres the link for more info

Uniden trax 430 frozen

I have had a similiar problem with my Trax 430. The screen freezes at the system shut down stage. I have to plug it into the computer via the USB cable. It then recognizes the computer and attempts to do an USB update. Then just unplug it. It should work but not a practical solution when you are driving about.
