You can get these cables at electronics stores like Radio Shack or online from sites like Amazon.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Firewire-Cable-IEEE-1394-1-8M/dp/B000747OIK/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1307019621&sr=8-4
Be sure to get the proper cable as they come in 4-pin to 4-pin or 4-pin to 6-pin. Check the ports on the dell for 4 or 6 pin.

Advice was given to me to buy firewire cable as my sony handycam DCR-TRV22E wont recognize by my mac OS X ver. 10.6.6? what type of firewire shld i buy?

I'm glad to provide the information about the required firewire cable.
All Sony Camcorders are having 4 pin firewire/i.LINK port.
You can purchase a Firewire cable depends upon the number of pins available on the firewire port on the Computer.
If you have 4 pin firewire port in the Computer, you can purchase a 4 to 4 pin Firewire cable.
If you have 6 pin Firewire port in your Computer, you can purchase 4 to 6 pin i.LINK cable.
In rare cases, it may also 4 to 9 pin.
Please refer the manual of your computer or contact apple to get the information about the number of pins available on the Computer.
You may also get back to me with the model # of the Computer so that I might be able to check the pin information.
Thanks for understanding.
If you need any further assistance, please let me know..

I'm not able to install drivers for my sony mini DV DCR-TRV22E handycam on mac os.

Hi,

The DCR-TRV22E Camcorder can be connected to the Macintosh Computer with the i.LINK (Firewire) cable. The Software supplied with the Camcorder is not compatible with the Macintosh Computer. Instead you've to use the Firewire cable for connecting the Camcorder to the Computer. You can use the iMovie Software for transferring the videos. You do not require any drivers from Sony, to transfer the video via i.LINK.
You require to purchase either a 4 - pin to 4 - pin or a 4 - pin to 6 - pin i.LINK / Firewire cable depending on the number of pins on the i.LINK / Firewire port of your computer (since Camcorder will have only 4PIN i-LINK, while the Computer may have a 4PIN or 6 PIN i.LINK port).

Thanks for using FixYa.
We wish you a happy Christmas and NewYear!!

I'm looking for the driver of sony handycam CDR-TRV22E so that i can transfer the video to my pc. thanx.

You can download drivers and manual for this camera from this page.

Advice on how to do the transfer is on this page. (You need to select Mini DV)

Sony recommend using Firewire instead of USB to transfer video from this type of camera.

This camera has both USB and Firewire (DV) connections. Suitable Firewire (DV) cables can easily be found on Amazon or eBay. You will need the kind with a small (four pin) connector at one end and a larger (six pin) connector at the other. The USB cable is less standard at the camera end, so search for one that is compatible with your camera.

Most PCs have a USB port, but no Firewire port. Macs often have a Firewire port but may not have USB. As most Windows PCs do not come with this interface, you might need to fit an add-on Firewire interface card.

WHICH FIREWIRE CABLE DO I GET FOR THE SONY DCR-TRV22E DV

you would need a ieee1394 4pin cable for the camcorder. of course the other end of the cable would depend on the computer's ieee1394 jack you'll be connecting the cable to. there are 2 types of ilink cables: 4pin-to-4pin or a 4pin-to-6pin (firewire 400) cable. latest mac computers uses a firewire 800 port so if your using one you may need a Moshi 800 to 400 firewire adapter if your having compatibility issues. see: http://store.apple.com/us/product/TW748LL/A for more information. hope this helps. thanks:)

UNABLE TO TRANSFER VIDEO FROM SONY HANDYCAM DCR TRV TO MY LAPTOP

If you want to use the USB cable to connect the Camera to the Computer to transfer the video to the Computer then:

This Camcorder does not support USB streaming with the VISTA Operating System. Use an i.LINK cable to transfer the video to the Computer. The i.LINK port is also called IEEE 1394 or Firewire port. (An i.LINK is a black D shaped connector with 4 or 6 pins. The type of cable to be used will depend on the i.LINK port of your Computer. The Sony Camcorder will have the 4 pin i.LINK cable and if the computer has the 6 pin i.LINK port, then you may have to use the 4 pin to 6 pin i.LINK Cable).

You can use any video capturing software like Windows Movie Maker to transfer the video from the Computer.

Refer this link for the instruction to transfer the video to the Computer using i.LINK cable.

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C111893

NOTE: As the Camcorder does not support USB streaming with Vista, it is not required to use any Sony Device Driver to transfer the video to the Computer. You do not require any Drivers or Software from Sony to transfer the video from the Camcorder to the Computer using the i.LINK/Firewire interface.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
