Want to increase speed

You can upgrade the RAM providing you have the slots available.
The maximum supported RAM in windows 7 is 4GB. You will find the serial number on the bottom of the laptop, possibly in the battery bay. You can use the following scanner to check the required RAM.

What is the maximum memory capacity of acer aspire 5600 model

According to the specs of this laptop model, it supports up to 4 GB of DDR2 533/667 MHz memory using two soDIMM modules. This means that you will have to replace the 512 MB memory module already installed in your laptop, & replace it with 2 soDIMM DDR2 533/667 MHz memory modules, each of 2 GB capacity.

Upgrading memory to 4GB failure

try to see if that memory is supported with your motherboard. The memory has something to do with that problem.

Problem with upgrading my acer extensa 5620z memory to 4GB

Hi there.
I recommend you get another stick of SODIMM to replace what seems to be the faulty stick.
If you are using XP or Vista X86 (32bit) then the system will only recognize 2.8 - 3GB of memory, only 64bit operating systems recognize the full 4GB.

Good luck ad thanks for using FixYa!!

Question about upgrading...

Hi,

Honestly In the long run you will be better off buying a cheap new laptop.

Dual core or similiar.

But lets see.
You can upgrade the cpu, memory and the hard drive.

The laptop supports Maximum of 72 MB of Ram by installing a matched pair of 32-mb memory modules in the memory upgrade sockets on the main board. Theres 8 MB build into the motherboard so you will have total of 72MB with 8MB on the board and 64 in the slots. Thats the maximum memory you can have. You could try a biger module at your own risk. (may not work)

the NeoMagic 2093 video controller is integrated and can't be changed.

What is the model of your LM? for example Lm M166ST
You should be able to upgrade to 166MHZ or more.

I don't know how big of a drive the computer supports, but Id guess atleast double? possibly more, I don't know whats the bigest size supported.
