Door will only close when held down

Got the Chamberlain Professional garage door opener model 41BD002-2 & have to hold down button to close it until it goes all the way down. Tried moving sensor with orange light & it still won't change. Any other suggestions? Reinstalled opener at a new location- was working perfect b4. Now that I have reinstalled the problem is:

when I push the opener it very briefly attempts to close and then stops and makes 4 to 5 clicking noises and then stops. If I hold down the button it will close smoothly until I let go of the button and then it opens all of the way again and makes the same 4 to 5 clicking noises. Even if I hold it down until it closes all the way it wont stay down - it opens back up.

The problem is in the sensors at the bottom of the tracks. They both should have lights on them one orange, sending, and green, receiving. In almost all cases theres an indicator on each side to let you know that sensors are positively aligned. Check wiring.
The only other problem I have seen is if the opener has gotten damaged by a power surge or lightning. The safety sensor part of the computer board on the back can get damaged, and maybe a sensor or two but, everything else works ok.

Sounds like the gear drive is getting worn.
also make sure the track are free of any debris.

My Chamberlain 41A5389-1B 1/2HP door opener will only close via the wall push button when it is held down until door is fully closed. Will not close with remote, when using the remote it will start to...

Have you checked the tracks on both sides? If the door closes when you hold the wall button there may be an obstruction or a bad guide. This could exert enough resistance to make it stop and reverse. Holding the wall button allows it to keep going past the problem.

My garage door opener opens with remote but will not close with remote. will open with wall button but button must be held down until door touches floor to close

Check the door sensors. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. Tweak them a bit. If you cannot get both lights to come on you have a bad sensor.

Wall mount button LED is flashing, remotes won't work, door won't close unless the wall mount button is held down until the door is fully closed

Sounds like you have a couple problems. First of all press and hold the button on the wall control that has a lock icon for 3 seconds and release. This should take care of the flashing LED and the remotes will now work. Having to hold the button on the wall control until the door is closed is usually a problem with the door sensors. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each is lit and not flickering.

Sears craftsman garage door opener

HOLDING DOWN THE WALL BUTTON OVERRIDES THE SAFETY EYES.
WHEN HOLDING IT DOWN MAKES THE DOOR CLOSE PROPERLY THE PROBLEM IS IN THE SAFETY EYES.

ARE BOTH LEDS ON? - CHECK FOR A LOOSE OR BROKEN WIRE.
ARE THE EYES WIRED CORRECTLY?
ARE THEY AIMED AT EACH OTHER?

Door will only close when held down

That normally happens when the sensors aren't aligned. Both sensors have led lights on them the yellow/orange one will stay on all the time the green one will go out if it cant see the other sensor. Possibly theres a wire that's broken or the other sensor is really out of alignment. Check every inch of wiring from the sensor to the opener, remove wire nuts if present and check the connections. The wires that are used are small, solid and can break easily. Also see if there's a staple that's too tight, move the wire abit where it's stapled and look for damage.
