I use a P5L-MX motherboard. I took my computer into the shop for a cleanup and reinstall vista due to a trojan virus being apparent. When I got it back, I had no sound at all. I had 5.1 surround before, which sounded great. Alas, no more. Vista informs me that HDAUDIO is working OK, but still nothing. I have everything plugged in properly. Can anyone please HELP me?

Dear "The Only Sol,thanks heaps for even answering my query, however, the guy at the fix-it shop assures me he did'nt open my case. I have to believe him, I think. He says all he did was uninstalled Vista Home Premium, saving my pictures and documents first. He did a cleanup of all the junk, and apparently getting rid of the trojan virus, (He explained that by doing this, the trojan disappeared and no longer registered at all). All I had to do was reload all of my programs, (Yeah,I know). But before I go ahead and do this, I'd rather have 5.1 surround sound back. The dumb thing about all of this, is Vista won't read my ASUS setup disk. What a nightmare. Thanks anyway Sol. regards Steve

If the sound drivers are alright, may be you have disabled either front panel/ back panel audio through a jumper on your mobo. Change it plug towards front / back panel & check again. Its also possible that the speakers are not working.

That we have a trojan

If you have a trojan or any kind of virus, you will require either a knowledge of how to clean registries, as well as files out of your computer.

Or you will require software to cleanup. If you don't have software, I would say use Malware bytes, Spybot Search and Destroy, and to cleanup after a virus scan I would suggest CCleaner for a registry cleaning and file cleanup.

I hope this helps.

P5l mx audio driver win xp 32 bit?

Hi,

Go to: Asus Support

Type P5L-MX in the search box in the upper left and click "Search Info".

You will need to verify the P5L-MX and click on the link for it. (This is because there is also a P5L-MX/IPAT motherboard.)

When you click on the P5L-MX link you will then need to select your operating system. Select WinXP from the dropdown menu.

Available downloads will then be listed. Click on AUDIO to see the available drivers.

Thanks for using Fixya.
