Hello and welcome to FixYa;

  1. Open the ink cartridge cover. If one or more ink cartridges is empty (for example Black), the LCD shows "Cannot Print (Replace BK Ink)" or "B&W Print Only."

  2. Press down on the release lever to unlock it and take out the ink cartridge for the color shown on the LCD.

  3. Open the new ink cartridge bag for the color shown on the LCD, and then take out the ink cartridge.

  4. Turn the green knob on the protective yellow cap clockwise to release the vacuum seal, then remove the cap (1). You must hold the ink cartridge as indicated in the picture below.

  5. Each color has its own correct position. Insert the ink cartridge in the direction of the arrow on the label.

I cannot find the slot to replace ink cartridges! Brother LC61CL

Which Brother all-in-one printer or copier do you have? The LC61CL cartridges fit MFC-255CW, MFC-290C, MFC-295CN, MFC-490CW, MFC-495CW, MFC-5490CN, MFC-5890CN, MFC-5895CW, MFC-6490CW, MFC-790CW, MFC-795CW, MFC-990CW, MFC-J410w, MFC-J615W and the DCP-165C . The cartridges could fit other printers as well.

I know that the MFC_795CW has a cover on the right hand side that you need to open when the unit is on. Then the cartridge carrier will move to the ink changing area. (For a new printer, there is a green protector in place that you need to pull out. Keep this in case you move the printer later.) This location applies for the DCP-165C copier as well.

If the unit is on but the cartridge carrier does not move to the opening of the ink cartridge cover, then something may be blocking the carrier from moving. This could be a scrap of paper or other foreign object blocking the route.

Brother has the support for most of their printers available here: http://www.brother-usa.com/Support/ . There is a specific link for just the manuals on the page as well.

More complete trouble-shooting guides are available if you search for your model from the Brother search box at the top right hand corner of the page. Go to the product details page and then see the Brother Solution Center links on the right hand side of the page.

I hope this helps.
