Sounds like the switch is not making good contact.

Make sure that the contacts touching the battery aren't bent.

I'm looking at mine and it has the factory fuse, which is a Blue 15 amp, 32 volt fuse.

Manual says:

Turn Power Supply switch to DC12V or Battery position
Turn Inflator to High Pressure position
Turn off when you reach the correct pressure according to the gauge

and

Charge battery up to 13 hours, do not completely run down the battery.

It comes with an AC adapter. You use that to charge it. If you lost the AC adapter... find an electronic store and take the unit with you to ensure you get the right replacement for it.

Yes, you should keep the car running, but you don't have to. If you decide not to, then you can drain your car battery, and then the car won't start.

Mine won't hold a charge either. I've had it for about a year and used it about 6 times. I have the manual and it is no help. I guess the battery is bad after a year. What a bummer. Don't purchase this product.
