I am trying to help my friend hook up her PS3 to a Magnavox TP2782 via RCA cables. I know enough about this kind of stuff to know that it is hooked up properly, but the issue is that I can't get a picture or audio. The Ps3 was hooked up to a different TV and working, mere minutes before we hooked up the "new" TV. I am using a GE universal remote, which doesn't seem to have any kind of input button. I looked online to see what could be done and someone had recomended an RF modulator. Also we don't have a cable hooked up to the AV port. She is just wanting to use the TV as a monitor.

Ur tv some how causes HDMI 1 and 2 port hubs link together so changes back and fourth 1 or 2 HDMI hubs will not a difference.Ur tv have 4 HDMI hub ports wright?Tries not to used HDMI hub ports as like HDMI ports like 1,2,3,4 to as in sequences.Tries used like 1 and 4,2 and 4,3 and 1 as skips sequences might work for ur tv.Tries to hook up the PS3 system as the old format hook up same hook as PS2 format like used the PS station old RCA AV cable hook up.Then that should not causes conflict at all because now tv have two difference kind of format hook up.
if the ps3 is set to hdmi it will not work threw the av cables. you need to change the settings on the ps3 to use av cable. its mostly set to hdmi as factory setup .
You will need to turn on the PS3 and hook it up with rca so you can access the console menus. Turn it on and get to the main dashboard.
1. Go to Settings -> Display Settings (not video)
2. Select [ Video Output Settings ]
3. Select HDMI
4. Select Resolution
5. Select Screen Size
6. Save the settings
7. Reboot the console.
This should resolve the problem. We've seen PS3 consoles that would not reset by performing a hard reset. We were able to resolve this issue through the settings menu though.
Let me know if it is still giving you issues.Hank

Try entering Recovery Mode and choose "Restore Default Settings".
If that doesn't help, you may have an HDMI port failure - which will require returning the unit to Sony or sending it to a third-party PS3 repair shop.
You will need the optical cable. My receiver only passes video through the hdmi. So I hooked up the HDMI cable to the tv, and the optical cable to the receiver. Once that is done you have to go to the audio settings for the PS3 and chose audio through the optical.
if this is the first time you've hooked it up via HDMI then you have to go back to the old cables first. Hook those up to the old TV or the new one, then go to settings and switch to HDMI. It will give you 30 seconds to change the plugs again so you can view the HDMI. Then select ok. Hope this helps
Try holding the power button on the ps3 for about 10seconds. It should beep as it normally would turning on, carry on holding the button until it restarts. This should restart the ps3 in standard mode so that it can be viewed via rca/scart connection.
