    Your Questions:

Ryobi 700r 31cc 15" Trimmer, lazy to start, but runs great once going, head no longer spins, engine still great,

    1. can it be fixed? Yes

    2. Probably shaft problem at head? Shaft problem

    3. replace shaft? Yes, See service manual link below

    4. Are there parts avail? Yes. Link provided in previous post

No sense pulling it apart if I cannot get replacement parts.

This service manual link many be of some assistance: (7.69 mb) 100 models covered. It is for Homelite but many procedures are the same regardless of brand.

Here is another manual that is a bit more detailed.

The Lazy to start problem is caused by Zama carb or fuel lines.

    Carb service manul here:

The fuel lines from the primer bulb get hard and the primber bulb rubber over time develops pin holes. If you really want to improve the engine performance, put a gasket / diaphragm kit in the carb, (under rectangular plate) replace all the fuel lines and the tank pick up tube.

    Thanks for choosing FixYa,

Bought new e3 plugs for weedeaters and cant find gaps for them i have a Featherlite 20cc Fl20 and a Ryobi 31cc 700R

The gap for the Weed Eater 20cc engine can be set @ .025". The larger engine Ryobi 31cc/32cc class can be set @ .030" Either engine would operate within that .005" range and I know a 32cc Poulan calls for a .030" gap.

Oil and gas mixture

Mixture is typically 40 or 50 to 1, gas to oil. The exact mix should be stamped on the gas cap.

I need to know how to load a two string trimmer head. This is on a ryobi weedeater model 700r, 31cc, 15 inch.

most of these use 2 wires coming out of 2 holes on opposite sides roll the firstwire clockwise, then the 2nd counterclockwise so that when the spool turns the string comes out its not hard

Ryobi 31cc , 17inch weed ,hard to start ,needs to stay choked to

I got on here to find the solution for the same problem. This seems to be fairly common. I need to have it at 3/4 choke to run properly. Other posts say the exact same thing, about the 3/4 choke. It is apparenly something that breaks occationally.

I'm going to remove the carb and take it apart. My suspection is the diaphram in the bottom of the carb. There isn't much you can do with the carb, it is very simple and has few parts.

There is a chance that it is a blocked passageway also.

There are instructions for adjusting the mixture, but they are not clear enough. I will be posting a clarification reqest on one of those posts. Will also post again after I check the diaphram.

TRIMMER WONT STAY STARTED

Check the fuel lines for cracks/breaks. If they are o.k., then:

Youwill need to disassemble the carburetor and spraywith carb.cleaner. Make sure the small screen is free of debris.(Should be able to see daylight through it.) Use a Den Tek Brush, (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152),to clean the small portals in carb. These portals canbecome blocked. Reassemble and start.

If you need further assistance, just let me know.

Fuel line positions ?

The longest fuel line, which has the filter attached to it, goes to the brass fitting furthest from the primer bulb. The short fuel line goes directly under the primer bulb. Which hole to put it in doesn't matter if the lines are the same size. Just choose the shortest path for each. However, if the lines are different sizes, then the longest line (smallest in diameter), goes in the smallest hole of the tank.

My ryobi 31cc 15" 700r won't start

You need to push the primer button 10 times or so (the button at the top of the speed control) to get the gass pumped up into the system again. Likely gas not getting through the line yet. Takes awhile.
