Ice cube tray not releasing cubes

The water is filling the tray as it should, but than it freezes and won't release. Got a big sheet of ice under the ice cube holder & the tray.

Is the heating element the small white plastic piece that is attached underneath the ice cube tray? It is dangling off the tray.

  • Anonymous Nov 11, 2008

I have the same problem. The ice maker is not overfilling with water per fill. The ice won't drop into the bucket once it's frozen. The tray turns, the ice stays and then when the tray returns to it's full, upright position - more water is added because it thinks that the previous batch of ice was dumped.
    how do I fix it?

    Hi-
Same problem here. With an Ohm meter, I have 100% resistance at the connector when checking the 2 white heating element wires.
-- Can I replace just the heating element?
-- What triggers the heating element to turn on/off, as it does not appear to be related to the square motor box?
    Thanks

The ice maker system is pretty simple.. A motor rotates with a gear reduction system and as it rotates... a switch is tripped when the motor reaches a certain point on its rotation... that switch lets water in for a prescribed period of time ( normally that is adjustable) and then as the motor rotates some more.. the ice tray has had adequate time for that ice to freeze and is positioned for it to be released,..at that time.. a small heating element is energized to release those ice cubes and the cubes fall from the tray into the bucket.. Chances are your heater is not working, unplugged or defective.. I would start by thawing everything out and getting the system free of any and all ice.. If after you've cleaned it all up.. and it still fails to release ice..you could be over-filling your tray and that freezes .. which in turn causes the system to fail too..You may need to adjust the fill level by throttle back on the water or if your system has a fill level control.. adjust that.. but first things first.. get the system back to a known good state.. ( meaning free from all ice ) so that you can monitor its performance,. Hope that helps...

It's hard to say what that is from your description.. if possible,,, can you take a digital pic and post it here so I can see what it is you are making reference to? Are you sure that item you descibe is not a connector that got unplugged from its matintg piece.. That would make more sense ..that the power connector to the heater got dislodged..

My ice maker isn't despensing enough ice fast enough to fill the ice bucket up

Ice makers spray cold water upward into cube shaped trays that freeze the water almost instantly upon contact . Then when you press the ice dispenser a heater comes on that releases the ice cubes from the metal trays. If it is very old replacement probably a good option.

Hi have LG fridge, ice maker making ice but freezes into one solid block instead of staying in individual ice cubes making it impossible to dispense do you have any ideas a sto why this is happening and...

Sounds like this is a water level problem. Too much water is being released into ice tray, which raises the water level above the depth of each cube form, causing one big cube. You can adjust the water level.

Maytag ice maker will not release cubes

Sounds like it has a " seeping " water valve . Only thing to do is replace the water inlet valve . There is a certain amount of water to go into icemaker at fill . A seeping valve will let water continually drip into icemaker , making large cubes which icemaker cannot dump . A larger amount of seeping , will overfill the icemaker , and drip into the freezer and floor .

Ice Cubes won't drop out

The thickness probe should be approximatly 1/4 inch off of the evaporator.Sounds like you might have loose grids on the evaporator.turn the unit off and remove the curtain.use a flash light and inspect the grids. There should not be space in between the joints,if there is the ice will freeze behind the grids and not properly release when in harvest. Also gently pull at the grids,if they pull towards you or wiggle then they are separating. I have removed one of the grids and had the unit continue to run for sometime until the evaporator could be replaced. The plating being spotty causes release issues as well. Finally check the level of the machine, front to back and side to side. Not being level will also cause release problems

Samsung refrigerator RS2534WW ICE MAKER DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERL

Hello here is how to fix the problem, first you have to remove the ice bin then then press the freeze temp and power cool buttons for about 12 seconds until the display panel switches to the option mode and you hear a beep.

A number under "Frige temp" corresponds to the option number. Press the fridge temp. button to increase the number and the power cool button to increase the number and the power cool button to decrease the number. set the option number to 3

now you have to select the input data to control the water supply time. Press the freeze temp button to increase the value. Press the power freeze bottom to decrease the value. Choose the right amount of water supplied to the ice tray which should be to where the water level is even with the rib on the inside of the tray.

input data = 00, 5 secs/01, 4 secs/02, 3 secs/ 03, 6 secs/ 04,7 secs/05,8secs

Let em know if this helps or not.

Ice Maker Freezing Up and Ice not dispensing

Check your ice cube tray to see if it is warped. Mine was. I took the tray off and dipped it into boiling water and remoulded it to the original shape and re-installed it. So far no problems. The tray gets warped because of the ice cube release mechanism. The tray is rotated around until it meets a block on one corner which creates the twisting motion we used to do on manual trays. Over time it tends to warp the tray. Good luck

Hollow Ice

H-m-m-m. Well, I'm not a chemist or a physics oriented person. My guess is that the air is trapped inside the cube as the ice forms. If there is a fan blowing cold(frigid) air over the cubes in question, it would make sense that the water in the tray would freeze at the coldest point first; that would be the top of the cube as opposed to the point farthest away or the bottom. The temperature of the water would uniform when the water enters the tray but would change in layers (top to bottom) as the cold air draws the heat out of the water (top) and the rest of the tray draws the heat away causing the ice to form through condensation. since the freezing process would occur faster at the top, any air trapped would condense allowing the rest of the water to freeze. Sort of like bubbles under a sheet of ice on a frozen pond. Solution? Are you manually filling the trays or is this an automatic process? If manual, try filling the trays with warm water and check them the next morning. Warm water is supposed to condense faster than cold. You mentioned changing the filter. Is it charcoal? It shouldn't make a difference but the new filter needs to have some water sent through it prior to installing it in the line to remove any loose particles that would end up in your ice. Other than that, adjusting the freezer to a colder temperature is about the only remaining option. Hope this helps. rix20601
