About a month ago my speakers started humming-does't matter if the cable/dvd are on, as long as the receiver is on it hums. Figured out it was the receiver since I plugged other speakers into my Rx-V1600 and they starting humming as well. I've had the system for about 4 years. Thanks, Adam

make sure you have it and the other electronics plugged into a surge protector strip and all cables wires & connections are fully seated (fully plugged in).The problem is in how the electrical current is being received and it is manifesting the humming sound / " GOD BLESS "

you may have a bad Earth power 110 V AC cable connection which makes such hum / buzz even nothing connected..
Check the connections between components and make sure they are secure before proceeding to the next Step. Sometimes, loose connections can cause a hum.

Separate the audio cables from the power cables; electromagnetic interference from the power cables can cause stereo hum. Use cable ties to secure the audio cables away from the power cables.

Plug in a surge protector to the outlet, and then plug all the components into that surge protector

Connect a ground plug to the surge protector and then plug the ground plug into the main outlet. A ground plug is available at any hardware store, and turns a three prong connection into a two prong. Ground plugs help eliminate 60 cycle hum.

5 Connect the ground wire from your turntable to the ground wire connection on the receiver. If this doesn't work, looking on the back there should be a grounding point,

Unplug your receiver.. Split a wire and attach one of the splits to the receiver where you will see the text, "ground" or something similar. Attach the other end to something metal such as a pipe that goes into the ground. Secure with electrical tape. Plug in.
connect the ground wire to a screw on the electrical outlet.

It wounds like you are getting interference from you tv to the receiver. You can try a few different things here.

1. Connect the tv output into another input on you receiver to see if it isnt the channel on the receiver.

2. Try a different set of cables between the tv and receiver. Faulty cables can give you problems.

3. Connect the cable from you tv to a different device. (another dvd vcr blue ray etc.) This will tell you if its the receivers or the tv.

The hum you hear from the speakers and from the unit itself originate with 60hz AC power. They may not actually be related. Sometimes a transformer will hum slightly and unnoticeably. That you're getting a loud speaker hum says there is an electrical leak or a grounding issue somewhere.

Do all sources produce the hum or, say, just the phono? How about on headphones? Try rotating the AC plug. In those days they weren't keyed with one large blade as they are now.

Usually Humming noises come from frequency interferance.  In this case it is being caused by your input sources.  A smiply solution is to replace the cables and or seperate the source cables away from any electircal cords or sources.

I had same problem but accidently had my zone 2 feature on. When I turn in off the hum when away.

Any cable? Hum is generally a bad ground. If you use cables and speakers that have no hum elsewhere, and more than one set has hum on this machine, then the unit has a grounding problem, and requires repair on an 'open up the unit' basis.

I suspect an open ground or bad cnnection in your hdmi cable to the amp from the sat.A hum is very indicative of that situation
