A CCD problem would explain the lines on your pictures and the lines on the LCD (since the CCD is used to feed the live image).

If seen on both your pc monitor as well as the camera's LCD then it's likely a CCD issue and it's no wonder that it will be more expensive than buying a new digicam. This is why you need to be exceptionally careful when taking care of your camera since most are uber sensitive to being damaged by the slightest miss-handling.

CCD image sensor problem occurs in this and other brands; in the next link, for example, check a recall on the Sony T1 and other cameras built around 2002-2004 with a CCD chip problem. The recall is good til 3/31/2009. Only $15 shipping charge ( I dont know if they keep this price ). Here is the link: Sony-Asia/Support/Announcement

In order to correct this issue, the repair facility needs to replace the CCD. This is not something you may do on your own;
Check this links that could give you additiona details:

- Powershot-S1-CCD-Problem

Hope this helps.

When I turn on the camera, Lens error shows up on

Try jiggling the lens. Use compressed air to blow out any grit around the lens barrel. If that doesn't do it, you'll need to get the camera serviced.

Cannot Wind nor See Thru View Finder

Whew!!! Many things to check. It sounds like the camera is not opening the lens up between shots. It could be a linkage issue. Look into lens while its on the camera. can you see the blades of the aperture? Turn the aperture ring. Any change? It is supposed to stay wide open except during exposure. Remove the lens. Move the lever on the back of it. See a change? Does it snap when you move it? If not, then the lens needs repair, not the camera. I forget...does the XGA have a DoF preview button? If so, its likely on front at bottom of lens mount. Push and release. If its in Preview mode, the lens remains stopped down(not wide open)based on the setting of the aperture ring.

Olympus FE-340 camera i turn on the power the lens goes in and out 2 or 3 times and the view is blurry in the view finder. The zoom feature has no effect when pushed to the wide setting and will turn off...

your lens may be damaged...your zoom assignments may need to be realligned if there are no broken parts. If there are broken parts in your lens it may be better to get a new lens

Dropped my exlilim ex-s880 in the sand and can view pictures only

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

The view finder is blac

I would guess your shutter is stuck closed, or the lens digitizer is faulty. Either problem will result in replacing your whole camera lens assembly. Sorry.

Lens Errors 17 & 27 on Sanyo VPC-E760

My camera was showing lens error 12&25 and then shutting off. I tried gently trying to twist and pull the furthest out part of the lens and it popped back into place easily. It made a noise when it did this, and then i turned the camera off, and the lens went back in!! Completely fixed now!!
