Hi. I have a Xacti VPC-HD1000 and I have two Verbatim Premium class 6 SDHC cards of 4 GB. One is recognized by the camera, the other one is not. With the one not recognized, when inserted in the camera, is asks all time to "Format" or "Full format" I tried also Kingston class 4 cards of 4GB and 8GB and they were not recognized by the camera. Camera firmware is 1.1.0 What do you recommend?

What was the speed of the second card? Scandisk are good cards. I think that the only important difference between cards is the speed.
>the process stopped 2h30 latter with the batt low level... (2 times),
You could try formatting with the camera in connected to the recharging shoe thing.

Is SDHC cards with 4 GB useable in the E6 camera?

Sorry, your camera is not compatible with SDHC. My best advice to you is to find a 2Gb card and be certain it does not say SDHC on it.

Does not recognize 8gb Verbatim SDHC card

Too many GB`s for this model..1 or 2 GB is enough for hundreds of photos.

Can't get started

Could it be that the SD card is not fast enough? I think that SD 40x or SDHC class 6 is needed from my experience (I am not sure what it says in the manual). What speed/class is the card you are using? I get these sort of problems intermittently on my HD2 (the predcessor to the HD1000) when I use a slower card.

Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD1- doesn't do anything in record mode

As I have been writing on other HD1/2 problems, sometimes it can be the card which is an issue. If the card is too slow or perhaps corrupted then the device can find it difficult to record.

This and other soft faults (that are reperable by turning the power on and off, changing or reinserting the card, removing the battery) are often indicated by a flashing red recording light.

Not saving recorded material on card

Could it be that your SD card is not fast enough? There are a lot of different flavours of SD card. Particularly, some SD cards are faster than others.

There are two main types of SD card: the original SD cards and the newer SDHC cards. The latter look the same, and the Xacti HD2 (and I guess the HD1) takes both.

The former, SD cards, have speed ratings that are given in terms of how many times faster they are than floppy disks.
Rating Speed (MB/s)
6x 0.9
32x 4.8
40x 6.0
66x 10.0
100x 15.0
133x 20.0
150x 22.5
200x 30.0

SDHC cards have a "class" rating where
  • Class 2: 2 MB/s
  • Class 4: 4 MB/s
  • Class 6: 6 MB/s

I find that my "class 6" SDHC card has few problems. This corresponds to a "40x" SD card.

Your card is pretty small at 256 MB. These days cards are much larger. Could it be that you are using an old card that you bought for a previous camera? If so, perhaps the speed of the card is only 32x (i.e. 32 times faster than a floppy) or less. Perhaps the card is too slow?

    Just an idea.
