the capstan drive can eat any tape, for sure old taps and 2x that dirty if the tape is not wound around the capstan, then its not munched. and is a simple eject failure, gota love tapes... '
a better solution is a new head. with USB port. rip the tapes to MP3 (on any PC for free) then copy them to USB stick (files) end life of bad tape H3LL.
I found the manual for this model weed eater, according to the manual the mixture... and I quote "This engine is certified to operate on unleaded gasoline. Before operation, gasoline must be mixed with a good quality synthetic 2-cycle air cooled engine oil designed to be mixed at a Ratio of 40:1 ...." and I quote once more from the manual "Helpful Tip. To obtain correct oil mix ration, pour 3.2 ounces of 2 cycle synthetic oil into one gallon of fresh gas."

If you're talking about mixing two-cycle oil with gas for a two stroke motor, always mix it in a gas can then pour it in the weed eater. It's easier to put the oil in the gas can first then fill it with gas to get the two mixed well.
You either have a roller problem or the take up reel is sluggish. Check out any belts and the drive. The roller may be worn. Grease can cause sticky reels so be careful with it. Silcone is best.
