Powermate nibbler won't work

Put some air motor lube oil in the air inlet and then hook up air supply. If that doesn't do it then open the motor to see if there is a stuck vane.

What is the thickest sheet metal that manual nibblers can effectively cut through?

they should be effective up to about 1/2" thickness. However, on softer metals you can probably go a little thicker, and on harder metals you might have to go a little under 1/2"

How do you take it apart?? after taking the 4 screws out, do i have to do something at the tip end?? there is the silver cap like end on it that has 2 depressed spots on it on either side? thanks

Yes, there is an adjustable spanner wrench with a metal *** on each leg. That will spin off counter-clockwise. I have also seen people use a punch to rotate it off, but I would personally use the wrench. If you can provide a model number, I can pull the breakdown or you can go to makita's website, type in your model, and they will have a viewable exploded diagram of your exact tool, making it much easier to plan the disassembly. Let me know how it goes, and don't hesitate to post any questions you might have along the way!

1/4 palm Sander is not "collecting" dust even with a new sanding bag, what could be the problem?

Are you using the punch plate to put holes in the sand paper after you put on a new sheet?
If you are it could have an obstruction in the fan guide or the fan has broken fins. Both the punch plate and fan can be purchased by clicking on the below link.
