Are you sure the power supply is OK for this drive?

Does it make any clicking/clunking sounds like any of these: http://datacent.com/hard_drive_sounds.php?
If yes - it's really bad.
If it sounds normal then try to remove it from enclosure and connect directly to a PC.

When I turn my macbook pro laptop on all I see is an envelope with a question mark

The computer cant find a start up directory so your Harddrive may be corrupted or physically bad. But there are other causes so...
First thing to do is turn it off, remove any connected devices or cables, unplug the power supply and remove the battery. Wait a minute or two then replace the power supply leaving the battery out and start the macbook while holding down the SHIFT key on the keyboard to start in Safe mode. If that works you're lucky and you can restart the computer normally (no shift key) replace the battery and any connected devices one at a time (with a shut down in between) to see if one of your devices was to blame. If that didnt work you will need to start the computer from your OSX start up DVD to repair your start up directory/harddrive if possible. See this link http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570 for more details. let me know if you need more help.

My book essential edition - 500Gb. Model no. WD5000H1U-00 It would appear that the power supply adaptor is not working since there is no power when plugged in. It is still in warranty, any advice on how...

> it is still in warranty

If you exercise the warranty, you'll have to send the current device back to W.D.
But, W.D. will take _no_ responsibility for 'rescuing' the files currently on the disk.
Is that what you want?

Disassemble the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive.
Connect it as a 'slave' disk-drive in a desktop computer.
If it works, the disk-drive is OK.
So, look at: http://www.canadaram.com/3_5_sata_enclosures.htm
and buy a new enclosure, with a new power-supply.
(Or, buy the new enclosure locally, at any computer-store.)
Disassemble your current unit, remove the disk-drive,
and transplant the disk-drive into the new enclosure.

Hi my name is claudia i had a wd5000h1u 00 western digital my book went i conect the divice to the computer the computer do not read the device and i can not see the information that i already save.

Try connecting the MyBook to a DIFFERENT computer.
If it still fails to show your files, then the MyBook is damaged.
Take the MyBook to a qualified computer technician for proper trouble-shooting. It _may_ be possible to "rescue" the files that you stored on it.

I am looking for a power supply for my external hard drive WD5000H1U-00

It may be cheaper to take the drive out and buy a new external enclosure or caddy.
A replacement power supply from amazon is $25 http://www.amazon.com/Adapter-External-Essential-Expander-Compatible/dp/B003GMJ334

A caddy to fit the drive in can cost from $5, it depends if you want to use the extra functions the current enclosure offers

Usb not recognized

what OS ?
did u load the driver for the device ?
check if ur USB port is working ? by connecting some other USB device
all these errors happen due to the IRQs clashing with the resources...
ensure that all devices in device manager dont have IRQ clash...check each item in device manager and check properties and check if there is any clash...for IRQs

NEC DTU-8D wiping the directory list

If it is in the system speed dial directory you have to go one by one and type "Feature, Redial, bin # where it is stored (system 00~79, station 80~99), Feature". This should wipe each Speed Dial listing.

If it is in the voice mail unit you may want to go phone by phone and log into the box. You will need to redo the following:

Personal Greeting
Recorded Name
Spelled Name
Directory Listing
Security Code

All these options are listed in each mailbox through a series of soft keys. Let me know if you need more info.

Western Digital My Book Premium ES Edition WD5000H1U-00 500 GB USB 2.0

Lots of posts on this on other boards -- I was looking for output voltage of AC adapters as they are not labeled WD and had mixed multiples from other devices in one box while moving-- -- found that answer -- BUT I also saw several people whose drive stopped working suddenly. One got a tip from WD support to unplug adaptor from power strip and into wall socket directly -- This seemed to have solved this for many. Being a study of electrical and electronics I have a suspicion that the current capacity of the strip plug cord wires or strip internals are being overloaded. This will cause a drop in voltage out of the power supply itself, thus low voltage to the drive. One individual re-created the problem by again going back to a loaded strip. No guarantees but worth a try!!
