I have a Kitchenaid Microwave model KHMS155LSS-2. The microwave will begin beeping (when not in use) and the clock will then flash to indicate it needs to be set. However, it will not allow me to reset it. If I unplug it, I can then reset it, however after a very short time it will again beep looking for me to reset the clock. From time to time it gives me an F2 error. Can you help?

F2 on a Kitchenaid microwave means you have a shorted keypad.

You have a failed keypad.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

If you would like to have us do this for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you need more help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Microwave starts beeping and then locks up. We unplug and when we plug back in works and then when done cooking starts beeping and locks up. The last time I used today I did not reset the clock and it has...

You have a shorting membrane keypad.

NOTE: If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or at least leave the door open when it's not in use, and of course one should never leave a microwave unattended while cooking.

On this model (
KHMS155LSS3), the membrane keypad comes on the complete control panel frame assembly.

In this case, you simply move your circuit board into the new frame. That is a simple do-it-yourself job.

It is part number 8205018 and you can get it from the Pros here for $108.80.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then you unplug the keypad (as per the photo below) and move the circuit board into your frame.

Some connectors on the relays may have a lock:

Microwave is beeping, lock comes on, F2, just keeps beeping by itself

F2 on a KitchenAid mike usually means a Keypad short. Beware if it is a KHMS155LSS, it can self start on its own with a KeyPad short. A real stunning defect.

My micro wave stop working f-2 is on screen

Possibly a keypad short or motherboard fault if it is a KitchenAid microwave. Beware if you have a KHMS155LSS model, a Keypad short can and will cause the microwave oven to start on its own. A real stunning defect.
