Hi, I am trying to connect my Acer Aspire 5600 laptop to my Sony Bravia (HDMI) TV. I bought a VGA cable to connect the two (because my laptop is not HDMI). Once i have plugged in the VGA cable in both extremeties and press FN + F5 (key to transfer the image from LT to TV), shouldn't this allow me to watch what I see on my LT on my TV? At this stage this is not happening, therefore I wonder if anyone is able to help?

The Bravia needs the video input to be changed to PC when you connect a computer to the Bravia.
You still need to press FN + F5 to divert the laptop video data to the video port on the laptop for the TV.

Most laptops have a combination of buttons you have to press on the keyboard to get it to output on the monitor output. Try pressing the FUNCTION KEY or FUNC/FN key usually found in the bottom left hand side of the keyboard. Keep that button held down while press one of the number keys.

Does the Sony VGN SF790 support hdmi cables? I would like to connect to my Sony Bravia TV

Hi.

No I'm afraid not. It only supports VGA out. If your TV supports a PC input then a male to male VGA cable will do. VGA does not support audio so you will also need an audio lead to connect to the TV too.

What do i need to connect my acer 5732z laptop to my sony bravia flar screen LCD tv so as to use the TV display as a large monitor. The TV has a HDMI output from a PC. There is no HDMI o/p on the PC

If there isn't no HDMI output from the PC, then you cannot use the HDMI option on your TV, however if your TV does have a VGA input option, the input adapter that look like that on your laptop, then all you need to do is buy a VGA cable from wal-mart or bestbuy. Walmart is cheaper though, however there is also option of buying a VGA- to HDMI cable on ebay if you want to go that option and wait couple of days for your item to arrive.
