Dell Dimension 4600 PC Desktop Logo
Posted on May 21, 2011

I have a dell dimension 4600 computer. I usually put the computer in sleep mode when I am not using it. Usually I press the ESC button and the computer wakes up. All of a sudden, the monitor won't wake up and stays black. I've done a hard boot on the computer numerous times since there's nothing on the screen. The monitor power button just blinks like its sleeping. Suggestions?

Plug the monitor into another computer to determine if the monitor is damaged or working properly. You can also plug another monitor into your computer to determine the same thing.

Came home to find computer off. It was left in sleep mode. The moniter keeps saying there is no signal and the keyboard has no power.

If its truely in sleep mode, and won't come out of sleep mode. Unplug the computer from its power, hold the power button down for 5-15 sec, then wait 2-5 full minutes. Then plug it back in, and turn it on.
If that doesn't work it is NOT stuck in sleep mode. Most dell computers I've worked with the caps go out in the power supply and/or the motherboard. I would next clean out the computer with canned air, check the caps on the motherboard, and in the power supply. If there are any bad caps, replace them, and it should fix it. Hopefully though the above paragraph fixes your problem.

Computer goes to sleep before it even starts up

Hi there, it appears as though the Power Options are set too short a time and the PC is going into sleep mode. Go to Start menu/Control Panel and look for Power options. Set them all to "never" This will prevent her PC from going into sleep mode. Good Luck.

Sleep mode

usually, to get a PC out of sleep mode, you either press the ESC key, press the power button a bit quickly, or press the sleep key agian. It really depends on the system. Try any of those to see if it helps.
