Is there any way he can save his progress or continue without turning off the game? A wild poliwag appeared and he pushed the run button just before it froze.

If it froze, then there is no way to save. you must turn the system off. and restart from your last save. that is why it is recommended to save often. please rate my solution, good or bad.

i had this problem too. i left my heart gold outside for a along time i kept on trying to fix it but it eventually reset all my data. i lost all my pokemon i couldnt get back. i think there is no way to fix it , sorry.
no its not if he's not involved in a pokemon battle he should be able to save in about 30 seconds using the menu feature of the game and usually pokemon battle wouldnt take more than 3 minute minutes

sounds like you need to recharge the DS it does that when it's to used, the soulution the this problem? recharge the DS if you don't have a charger then go to the future shop and buy one
