Greetings - Your home theater setup will not play xvid or mpeg 4 files. The formats supported are MPG 1 and 2, Divx, and WMV .

If you'd like to view any .AVI or .MP4 files you would have to use a computer and re-encode them to a compatible format.

You will find a list of the software and links to download (much of it free) tools HERE that you can use to convert video to a compatible format (MPG2 is always a good safe format that plays on anything).

Good Luck,

Mikeywaf

I have an .avi file dvd rip xvid that dont play and when i open it,the message reads"plase ensure windows media player is upto date.please visit www.dbmovies.info to get the db codec".

The video file you have might be encoded with a codec you don't have installed.
There are codec packs which cover the most of them, so that media players can play videos.
You can try downloading the most popular I know, k-lite codec pack from here. And try to play the video again.

If you don't want to mess with codecs and stuff, you can always try downloading vlc media player, that plays nearly anything without the need of separate codecs.

Problem with .avi format files (videos)

avi is a standard video container, about any media player can play that, however many codecs can be used, especially Divx and Xvid, try downloading codecs for these,

personally i prefer the k-lite codec pack, it contains about every codec
