My 1983 Dodge Ram Truck Starts up and then shuts down about 3 seconds later. It's like the Ignition is turn off, but it isn't! I've checked the fuel lines and pump, they are in running order. Put in a new ceramic resister, new coil. New electronic ignition, rotor and coil are good. The truck doesn't seem to want to keep running. Can you Help!!!!!!
How about the fuel filter? you can have enough pressure and not enough flow, Which would result in pressure going down fast. Also , I dont know if you have a carb or throttle injectors, in a carb the float can stick, tap the carb with a hammer. with injectors watch the flow, if they cut off quickly then check voltage. or they could be clogging up. If they continue to spray and the flow looks weak, go back to the fuel filter. How about the fuel filter? you can have enough pressure and not enough flow, Which would result in pressure going down fast. Check the security locks, if the truck still thinks its locked, it will let itself start and run momentarily then shut itself off, there's a way to reset it but I don't remember how right now
Check the steel fuel line under the intake manifold had one that was almost completely clogged shut with **** took a month of hunting but found this to be the problem
As above, do you have gasline antifreeze in the tank? If you want to confirm its a fuel related problem, take rubber air intake off front of throttle body. Hold the plate, flap or whatever you want to call it open a bit, (where the air goes in to throttle body.) Give it a shot of WD-40 for about 2 or 3 seconds, then try to start it. If it fires up and runs for a couple of seconds then dies, you've got a fuel problem.
