I have two Verbatim Insight 500Gb external drives. I mistakenly unplugged them from my PC without pressing the option to remove hardware safely. It now only says scanning. No computer in my house will recognize them. Is there a solution for this?

You may have to take them apart and put them directly in the computer to fix them and may have to reformat or fdisk them and format to use again but you will lose all the files. there are recovery programs out there but they are not free... there are recovery services out the that are very expensive (1200.00) good luck

Testimonial: "Wow! I completely forgot I posted this question. I'm just seeing it now, but I have to say that you are correct, because I just did this about two months ago. One worked fine and I was able to move all of my files to another HD. But the second forced me to reformat, and I had to lose whatever was on there. I was glad that it had been so long that I didn't even remember what I had stored on it. That made it a whole lot easier to lose. Thanks."

Why wont windows recognize my verbatim 500gb serial no JB0094011152

Go into Device Manager and if it doesn't appear there click "scan for hardware changes". If that doesn't work, makes sure you have plug and play enabled. Always use the safely remove hardware option when unplugging it.

Windows 7 cant pig up my external hard drive

Try to install the required drivers for the external USB-enclosure. If you did, you should verify if the connections inside the encloser is well connected, as you should also check if the included powersupply (adapter) will be sufficient to power the internal harddisk.
Another test is to connect the drive to a different USB-port at your computer, or,... even better, connect it to a different PC.

Another option is that the harddisk is not formatted. Some OS'es (like Windows) don't handle this well. You can look for Acronis Disk Dokter at Internet, to overcome this.
If all failed, well, then you got an hardware issue. Either the external enclosure is malfunctioning or the harddisk is defective.

use the source (pc/Mac) that created the data to remove it.
you will need to re-format to get it to work on the machine you are currently trying to use.
(personally I always remove all partitions and format to "fat" (remove factory) this will make the drive work on Mac as well as pc)

hope this helps

Dear Sir I just bought a verbatim 500 GB external

When you press the button it takes a few seconds for the indicator light to come on because the drive is initializing on startup, in other words its starting to spin up which could take a few seconds. Press the button one time and wait 30 seconds to see if its just the delay for the Hard drive to come to speed. And the same for the shutdown it may take a few seconds for it to park the drive and shutdown.
If this helped give a thumbs up.

Verbatim drive regularly does not show up as available. I have to unplug it and try to get it to reset. do you know how to fix?

Hello!
I checked the Verbatim website for common Windows/USB drive problems. Since I don't know your exact model the information I'm giving is pretty general, but from the Verbatim website it looked like something that could help.

For one, Verbatim says you don't need drivers for your drive to work, but if you're having issues installing their driver might help. Go to their website (Verbatim.com) and in the top left go to "Support". From there you should be able to enter your model and download drivers. The installation instructions are usually on the same page.

The second potential fix is to increase the USB power to the drive. The Verbatim site says that some of their drives require plugging into 2 USB ports to get enough power to run the drive. If this is the case for your drive, you should've gotten a USB cable that is shaped like a "Y". The two wires at the "top" of the "Y" go into two USB ports on your computer. It also said that if even you didn't get the cable you could still be having power issues. You'll have to go to the Support section of the site and enter your model number to see if this could still be the problem.

Good luck! Remember to rate the responses you get!

Usb devise not recognised

You probably damaged the drive from sudden disconnection of the signal line. I would suggest trying it on one other computer before considering it trashed.

Doesn't automatically dock, can't safely undock...

sure you do..at the bottom of the tray on right, should be a safely remove or add hardware icon. If it's there, then use it..if not, you'll find it through the Help screen.

good for USB too, by the way.
