You have to format the drives. If you put data on the drives using computer 'a' whos OS is MacOS and then you put the same Drive into computer 'b' which has windows, it may not recognise the file system/structure.

I solved write protection on my Verbatim store 'n' go 1 GB by this program "HT203 Handy Steno 2.0 Repair Tool" which format FLASH DISK from http://emea.apacer.com/en/support/downloads.asp . I know its different manufacturer but its working.

SOURCE: i cant format or put

Some Verbatims have a write protection switch on its side - make sure it's not activated. Then open the properties of the stick in My Computer. If in there the stick isn't set as read only then it has died - there's nothing more you can do to save it. Junk it and get a new one.

SOURCE: Verbatim Model #USBPRO500 Shows up on list of

use the source (pc/Mac) that created the data to remove it.
you will need to re-format to get it to work on the machine you are currently trying to use.
(personally I always remove all partitions and format to "fat" (remove factory) this will make the drive work on Mac as well as pc)

hope this helps

Its a hardware problem, it seems that your laptop fails to detect your HDD as your HDD is damaged and is unusable. Replace it with another HDD or purchase a new HDD.

It want come up on my computer

Step 1:
Problems with Verbatim portable hard drives vary depending on your model of hard drive, your operating system and your computer hardware. Some problems can include insufficient USB power output, the file system format, and potential overheating due to enclosure materials.

File System b> Verbatim portable hard drives come formatted for use with Mac computers. If you're using it with a Windows or Linux computer, you will need to format it to a file system that your operating system will recognize; Windows computers typically work with NTFS, while modern Linux distributions use ext4. If you have computers with mutliple operating systems, FAT32 is usually considered easier for all operating systems to recognize. Verbatim does not recommend switching a portable drive between PC and Mac computers once you've formatted the drive one way or the other. Adequate Power While most computers supply adequate power with one USB port, older computers can have insufficient power output. If your computer doesn't seem to be powering the drive, use of a Y-shaped USB cable, designed to be plugged into two USB ports, can get more power to run the drive. Additionally, consider trying different USB ports on the same computer; some USB ports get more power than others. Drivers b> Make sure that you have any relevant drivers related to the hard drive that you have purchased. If your drive didn't come with a setup disc, you can check the Verbatim website for product drivers. Overheating b> Of Verbatim's seven portable hard drives, four are enclosed in plastic; of the other three, one is enclosed in aluminum, one in leather, and one in rubber. While all the drives are tested to run well with their enclosure, metal enclosures conduct heat away from the hard drive and help to prevent overheating. Plastic, on the other hand, is an insulator, so plastic enclosures may contribute to heat buildup. Check plastic-enclosed drives for overheating and avoid leaving them plugged in when not in use.

Hi, I have two Verbatim Smartdisk external drives (Firelite Model No. 47551) that we were using as a backup medium. They have been replaced by larger RDX drives but I would like to use the Verbatim...

If you did not receive a driver disk with your Smartdisks when you purchased them than you do not need to install any drivers. However, depending on which windows operating system you are using, your smartdisks may not be compatible. What you should do is go online to the Verbatim website and see if your model is compatible with the operating system you are using.

I have a Verbatim Clon portable hard drive, when i plug it in to the computer for the first time it does not show up in my computer and i am trying to install it to my computer using the Found New Hardware...

It is possible that it's coming in under an existing drive letter, and therefore unable to show.

You need to go into the PC Manage window. On XP or Vista right click on My Computer and choose Manage.
Under the Storage area, you'll see / Click it - Disk Management. This will display all devices connected, wether or not they have a drive letter assigned.
Warning ! Don't mess around here, you can do serious damage.
Look for your device in the list of drives.. You should be able to tell by the name..
Right click on the device and choos Change Drive Letter andpick a letter that's not used by anything else, even your usb flash drive,. Like K. Apply changes and exit.. Reboot..
That's it.. If that was the problem, it is now fixed. If not fixed, that was not the problem.
