Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Below are more details for both items. Also, complete repair kits with instructions and repair support are avail from site such as www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture is very green & blue very little red

caroldickers,

if the picture have lost red, possibly there's a loose contact somewhere in C-board area of your screen. The only way to revive the red color is to check and resolder the c-board are.C-board is located at the back of the CRT unit.

DLP Colors Are Off - Picture Is Mostly Blue and Yellow

Sounds like you've lost your red video signal (chroma) somewhere along the line. This tv has a 3 board video path. Analog main pcb --->Digital main pcb --->DMD pcb. The analog has all your inputs on it, except DVI and RGB which go straight into the digital board. The digital scales (upconverts) the signal to HD (1080 or native) and sends it to the DMD or light engine. See which inputs are distorted. If only DVI is clean then you problem is the analog board. If you menu and everything is distorted then suspect the DMD board. If you run component or DVI through the resolutions (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i) you can get an idea between the digital board and dmd. The menu is generated on the digital board. Somewhere red is getting lost.

2001 sony wega 36" tv tube

If you turn the color all the way off the picture should have good black and white if not the crt is at fault. If it is good it could be the jungle ic or the possibly the red color driver in the crt board

Tv lost color

Your problem most likely is on the signal board is my guess. If your not a technician it would be in your best interest to have him check L2C60 on the signal board.

Everything in picture on television are green

The basic colors in the TV is RGB & each color has a diff amplitude & frequenc. It seems that the IC controlling the RED & BLUE has lost some of it's capabilities due to lower voltage supplied/regulated by the chip, which generally happens after quite long period of usage. However this seems an inherent fault with visio & most of the early sets do not have this problem sorted out at the manufacturing level & is a problem for most of TV's which are unpredictable & could occur in a month or year. If still under warranty, pressurize your dealer/distributor/service center to sort it pronto or ........... face the consequence..........sodeep
