You pressed "format" on your camera. That meant that you formatted the memory card of your camera. All your pictures are saved on the memory card of your Canon digital camera automatically. You can recover them with photo recovery software. But once the pictures were overwritten by new data, they are gone for good.

I had recovered photos and videos from formatted SD card on my camera with a program called Tenorshare Photo Recovery for Mac and it worked.Anyway, you can download it (Photo Recovery for Windows version is available, too, as I remember) and scan your memory card for free to preview whether your files can be recovered.By the way,it will show you the file name, type, date and size of your files and thumbnails for your pictures that it found on your card.Give it a shot!

Here is a step by step tutorial to guide you recover photos from formatted memory card.

It sounds like you accidentally format your camera memory card. Don't worry! As long as you've not save anything new on this camera since then, you do have chances to get all your pictures back.
In fact, nowadays, the formatting process will not actually wipe out everything off from your camera memory card. But, these deleted files still can be easily rewritten by anything new on the same camera memory card. So, take care!
Firstly, stop using this camera immediately till you've saved all your deleted pictures.
Secondly, plunge this camera to your computer and prepare to retrieve all your deleted photos.
Thirdly, apply a camera data recovery freeware to retrieve all your deleted photos back successfully:
http://blog4mark.blogspot.com/2012/12/photo-recovery-after-delete.html
I believe this data recovery can work perfectly on your camera memory card just in the same way as it completely retrieves all the deleted data of my friend off from his camera.
Fourthly, save and back up all the restored photos on a different camera memory card or drive in case of data recovery failure.
Note: Never forget to back up everything important at least on two cards or locations in the future.
Good luck!

First do not panic! It is possible to recover your pictures if you take care. Take the card from the camera (powered off) and if it has a "write protect" tab then lock it now. Do not try and write anything to the card or you risk causing more problems.

You can either plug in you camera to the PC as it should appear as a “Removable Drive” or put the card in a card reader attached to your PC.

Next, if you are comfortable with using a PC then you can download a FREE utility that will recover your photos from the following link:

http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec

If you need something a little more "user friendly" then you will need to buy the software. If you search the web for photo recovery software you will find many.
One I have used successfully is RescuePro that used to be bundled with some Sandisk products. Now you can get it from the link below:

http://www.lc-tech.com/software/prwindetail.html.

You can try the demo to see what you can recover before buying.

Remember - Do NOT try & write anything back to the card until you can recover your pictures to your PC safely!

Please take a moment to rate this solution & let us know if the information given was useful to you – Good Luck!

How to unlock a photo in camara

The protect function allows a user to protect a picture from accidental deletion. To unprotect a picture on your camera, scroll to the protected picture that you want to delete, then press the Menu button (the button to the right of the Play button.) Scroll down the menu and you should come to an option that allows you to Protect/Unprotect the picture. Since your picture is currently protected, deselect that option. You should then be able to delete the picture normally.

Alternatively, you could also format the memory card, however this deletes ALL photos and data you have on the memory card. If you are trying to completely clear the memory, this is the best way. After turning on your camera, simply press the Menu button, scroll to Setup, then scroll down to Format. Select Format, it will ask you if you want to format the memory card, or the camera's built-in memory. Format whichever one you want to clear, if you are using a memory card then your pictures are stored on the memory card. It will take a few seconds to format.

Hope this helps.

How do I format the sd card in the DMC_ZS7

Hi,

Welcome to FixYa.

To format the SD card, select [Format] from the [Setup] menu

To bring up the Menu option, press the Menu/Set button. Then select [Setup] and then select [FORMAT]. Then choose Yes to format the card.

Please note:

This requires a sufficiently charged battery, or an AC adaptor (optional) and DC coupler (optional). When
formatting the built-in memory, remove the cards.
(Only inserted card will be formatted if present; built-in memory will be formatted if no card is inserted.)
• Always format cards with this camera.
• All picture data including protected pictures will be deleted.
• Do not turn off power or perform other operations during formatting.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Fuji FinePix S2 Pro New 4 Gb disk in cam prompts msg ''Card not initialzied.'' Have tried many things. None work. Help.

Hi,

Go into menu and try to format memory card. Most cameras can just use card right from package without format.Formatting will delete all pics if any available. This is the only solution for your problem.
This is the procedure,In playback mode on the camera (green arrow on selector switch - or middle option if the legend has worn off) press menu/ok -> select format -> menu/ok ->menu/ok to confirm
Any pictures on the card will be lost.

Thank you !!

How do l free up my memory stick after downloading the pictures?

assuming that you are talking about a memory card ..just get into view mode..and on the menu choose storage ..than options and clear memory card ..or ..just again in view mode..choose a picture and options and when you try to delete will ask for multiple delete ...select them all and delete ..or just insert the card into a card reader and when it shows in the my computer folder open it ..select all pictures and than press delete ..
the fastest way though is to simple select in the main menu the storage ...in there select card ..and on options format card ...this will erase all on it ..and format it in the same time for best performance in the device ..

I downloaded some pictures to my school computer and now my camera won't take any pictures. Message is Memory card write protected.

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

If that doesn't work, try another card.

Format memory card option on the menu

Deleting or formatting won't make the data in memory card erased permanently.

Those deleted data is still stored on the memory card, it's just invisible or inaccessible. Only the FAT or NFTS table is erased (the information about where those data were saved), but the real data are still intact there in sectors of the hard drive.

So as long as those data are not overwritten by new data, it's highly possible to recover them. And the MOST Effective way is to rely on some format recovery programs.

Try this data recovery program called asoftech data recovery, which can recover data after deeply scanning your memory card to look for lost data you accidentally deleted or formatted.
http://www.asoftech.com/adr/

Note: before the data is recovered, never attempt to put more files to the USB drive. As saving more files may cause original data overwritten. Once overwritten, it's impossible to recover the lost items.

Good luck and best regards!
