The mouse is bad. I had one that it opened two windows and all kinds of things when on. I replace the mouse and now it does not do it

2 year late and the OP found his battery dead.???? be like first the RFI interference checks.
    no PC stated at all.
no OS stated and win10 does not run most of these over 15 year old keyboards now.!!!!
there are no w10 drivers for it from dell.
    ok>?
to work on PCs one needs to know 2 things first
what PC it is and what OS you run
lacking those 2 key facts there are no answers.
but a USB mouse wired, works any time you want even keep spares.

here is dell answering this question

real name of that wireless kbd is
DELL 310-4170 W0147 MULTIMEDIA WIRELESS KEYBOARD & MOUSE DESKTOP ".

this kbd was produced in the XP era.
yeah a relic and is not supported in 2019
    nor 2017.

there are 3 parts, (and batteries 4th
    the receiver
    the keyboard and mouse set
and the name and number of the whole set.
I see posts at dell back to 2004(wow)

    back in 2004 this:
DELL 310-4170 W0147 MULTIMEDIA WIRELESS KEYBOARD & MOUSE DESKTOP ".

so there is the full name of it.

dell support shows NONE this old.
zero drivers for this thing now.

What make the mouse scrolling ?how does it work?

post problems or symptoms
not ask for theses on mouse design.
That keyboard is a relic.
no history toll, no PC told no OS told
just a vague scrolling thing.
some of those old keyboards use special mouse just for it.
and the keyboard most work first. or mouse will be dead
all parts that came with the keyboard and mouse kit must not be missing for sure the transceiver USB module
that keyboard doe now work in w8 ,w10 or w10 OS PCs
its too old now.
real set name is

OEM Dell Computer DELL 310-4170 W0147 MULTIMEDIA WIRELESS OPTICAL KEYBOARD & MOUSE DESKTOP BROWN B Dell Computer
zero support exists now.
its too old.
and kbd and mouse batteries are bad, or rusty train wreck

My wireless keyboard wont let me click on icons on screen only under programs will it work

Try the ALT + Tab or Windows key + D button a few times, then it should start / be able to click icons... Alternately : you can restart your system in safemode by repeatedly pressing the F8 button on the kbd while the system is starting (boot up screen), you should be at an advanced boot menu that should take you to safe mode - once you are in safemode the mouse should work well.

My Dell RT7D40 won't sync with my computer. do i need a CD? my computer is old and doesn't have a sync button on the back. does this affect my keyboard?

Blue tooth is notorious for not working. Your best bet for a worry-free life with your computer, is do not use wireless kbd or mouse. sincerely, they are all hype, and no real benefits come from their use. Youd be better off using USB extension cables to reach into those odd places rather than spending hours and hours of time trying to get something to work, only to discover that as soon as windows updates itself, it has failed and, (once again) you have no kb or ms control and the computer is just sitting there waiting on you to do something, but you cant. wireless kb and mice are a pain, and they eat batteries like pac man eats dots.

I had to replace the battery in my desktop, and now the wireless mouse and keyboard do not work

I think you mean the battery on wireless Keyboard. There is a reset button or connect button underneath your wireless keyboard. Press it and try to connect your wireless keyboard

Wireless Dell mouse, wheel in middle, 2 buttons, black and silver.

First try to reinstall the updated driver for your mouse. If this does not work, it could be that the mouse is worn out and you may need to replace it...
