My iPhone 3GS got wet. I have since dried it. I went to restore it and it won't read the sim card. It also will not read my other sim card. What should I do?

Please restore and check the sim card cabin is ok or not and show it to a software enginer

unfortunately the iPhone does not save any data on the SIM card, unless the card came out of an older phone it may have contacts on but the iPhone does not save to the SIM it can only read from it. So as you probably have feared you will have to restore the iPhone back to its factory settings and if you do not have a backup on your computer you will lose all data. I am sorry.

Ben, Could you try dry it first? Do not turn on.
As you said that your card is not read by iphone, i can see that you already turn it on after it submerged in greasy water. I hope it doesn't short circuit yet. Use hair dryer, dry your iphone through the usb connection hole, leave for awhile, make sure it dry, then try again. Hope this will help. For future, if phone dropped in water, first thing to do is take off battery, or turn of completely then dry it before checking it still work or not.Thanks for reading.

Actually, there is no problem. That only means, your iPhone is locked to certain sim carriers. If you want to use your sim on your iPhone, you need to jailbreak it and then unlock it. And I got all tips for you to do those stuff.

just get any ATT SIM and insert into device and restore device, that will resolve your issue. then after its activated just remove the SIM card.
