it doesn't seem as if the disc is moving or being read by the dvd player and the screen is blank it does not even indicate that it is trying to read the disc. The has not ever been dropped, and has not been owned for that long so i dont know why this is happening all of a sudden

Hello, My GoVideo dvd/vhs player (model dvr4200) has been working great until a couple days ago. Recently it is not reading dvd's. After I put it into the player it will read the disc and begin to...

Hi;
This is and usual indication of a poor spindel motor that needs replacing it is the motor that spins the disc, it is the most common failue in DVD's and CD plyrs. You can't just replace the motor you will have to replace what called the mech assembly which will include the spindle motor/Laser/stepping motor etc...

When loading a dvd it displays, "NO DISK". Is it

Hello
There are mainly three motors for most of the DVD players. One to spin the disc we insert in, other to load the laser pickup unit to-and-fro inside it to read the disc and an other one to load the tray mechanism 'in-out'. According to your description, the disc spins inside, and you can hear its spin. So motor which spins the disc has no trouble at all I should say. Then comes to the second motor that moves the laser assembly inside it. If it do not work, the laser pickup unit won't move and no reading will take place and 'No Disc' display will be the result. The last chance is with Laser Pickup Unit itself. Just get this unit repaired by any well experienced service technician or by the authorised service center, because, there are special tools to open this unit. As it is a compactable one, more care should be given to it while repairing. Suspect the second motor I described earlier, and the Laser Pickup Unit. OK.

My dvd player won't spin. The TV is fine. Could a dvd lens cleaner work if a disc doesn't spin?

The lens cleaner will not work if the disc wont move. It sounds like the drive motor is blown. Could possibly be a fuse, but if your not experienced troubleshooting electronics I do not suggest you fix it yourself. Honestly it would be cheaper to buy a new dvd player than having this one fixed.

Sony dvp-fx810; install dvd; display says "loading", disc spins until finally stops, says "check disc". no picture at all.

You can try cleaning the laser lens.

CAUTION!! The lens is delicate! I wipe DVD lenses with ONE drop of glasses cleaner on a Q-tip and, starting in the center, wipe in circles to the outside. Do not press down! Do not force the lens side to side. It will move while cleaning but don't put more pressure than needed to move the lens 3/4 way down!
Its a cheap test to see if there is a fingerprint on the lens. (You won't be able to see it - does not take much)
If this does not help, it means it needs a laser or worse. Probably just replace the player.

I have a HR 753 DVD player and recorder and all of sudden not reading a lot of disks. even new ones brought from shop. I have put them in my friends DVD which is exactly the same and they work. Any ideas?...

Barring lightning strikes and other electrical issues...

9 times out of 10 the issue is going to be one of the two motors that are in the player. Either the motor that moves the lens or the motor that spins the disc. You should be able to hear a difference in the sounds the two players make when you insert a disc. If it is the motors you will hear clicking noise, similar to a dying hard drive. If ther motors work, you will hear the whurring noise of a spinning disc.

Won't load

My player was doing the same thing and I noticed that the lens arm was stuck near where the disc snaps into place. I gently pushed the arm away from the center (being careful not to touch the lens). I restarted the dvd player and put a disc in...started right away.

DVD player doesn't work

You should make sure that DVD lance is power. You can check the lance by switch on the door switch.

Portable DVD player not spinning says no disc

Check to see if the disc is spinning. You can do this by one of two ways either
  • a:) Listen for the disc to spin after inserting it or
  • b:) Place disk in drive right way up (so that the label is not upside down). Load the disc and eject the disc again to se if the disc has moved i.e. the writing may now be upside down.
If the disc does not spin then it is likely that there is something wrong with the disc motor. If it does spin then the issue is more likely to be with the laser unit. Try cleaning the lens but if this doesn't help it's likely to be a more serious and ultimately more expensive problem.

Hope this helps
