My dryer smells like it is burning. I took it apart and the belt looks ok. The lint filter is clean and also the outgoing lint pipe. Any suggestions why this has a burning smell.

I have seen this before, cleaning the actual dryer vent trap out is taking the machine apart, I mean taking the cover off and vacuuming the thing out. Just taking the tube off the bottom that goes outside isn't enough some times. We find change and bolts as well when cleaning it "all the way" usually. It could just be residual dust burning from the heat part as well. How is it drying? If the cloths are getting dry at the right amount of time, then you might be OK.

i have found that when people start smelling things in the dryer it's from chemicals from like paint or varnish,all the dryer does is move air when it gets hot you start smelling it.you can pull it apart and check the belt and rollers but your dryer has the lint filter on top and there isn't anything in there that could really make it smell,on some of these dryers the belt pulley doesn't have a wheel on it,the pulley is just a piece of metal with no moving parts and the belt rubs on the pulley but i've never smelt anything from that,like i say usually it's from having your floors done over the smell from the polyurethane coating or from paint can make the dryer smell.go here to take dryer apart

Dryers collect lint.
Some, like the one I fixed last month, had a whole wastebasket full of lint inside it where you could not get it out without tearing the whole dryer apart.
I\'m suspecting either lint or some other foreign object is burning.
For your safety, please take it completely apart, or get someone else who knows what they are doing to do so, before you have a dryer fire.
( P.S. The last dryer I just fixed had a worn out felt on the drum, allowing the blower fan to suck lint past the screen and fill the inside of the dryer with that lint.)

Hello, In most cases when you have a burning smell a simple fix is your lint lines are dirty. A lot of time when your filter or your hose that goes out the back (by the wall) gets dirty it gets hot and starts to burn. There have been some cases where it will catch on fire, so always make sure lint filter and hoses are clean. Other forms of burning smell can be the dryer belt is waring out or loose, Kind of link when a vacuum cleaner belt gets worn and starts slipping and burning rubber smell. AND Finally could be the main barring that could be going out.

My advice start with simplest first, check vents and lint filter and go from there.

Lint burns quickly and rarely holds a flame long enough to cause a fire hazard. Metal burning would probably indicate friction on spinning metal, like the motor shaft, or the drum rollers. Plastic/rubber are usually parts that are intended to wear, and can usually be replaced.

Along with the belt, you should also check the idler pulley that takes up the slack in the belt, as well as any drum rollers or nylon glides on the top of the dryer door where the drum rides. Metal, plastic, and lint have distinct smells, and you should be able to determine which one(s) you have by smell.

Lint is a common burner in dryers, and it seems you've looked in some of the obvious places it can accumulate. When you have the cover off, pay special attention to the burner area, and any ducts from the lint screen area. Also, any gaps in insulation where air flows could cause hot spots in the unit. If you can see the flame while its running, make sure its size is not excessive. Flames should not be too low or too high, and should not escape the burner housing.

If you notice soot buildup, your gas/air mixture is off. If you've switched from natural to bottled gas or vice-versa, you may need to swap the burner orifices to match the different pressures of the gas fuel.

belts dont really burn the main reason for buring smell is lint on the element did you take the whole barrel out? as 90% of the lint that burns is formed around the heating coil behind the barrel

Take a flashlight and look inside the drum at the holes on the back end of the drum where the hot air comes in. On mine, there is an air deflector on the back side of the drum and the space between this deflector and the drum was packed with lint. The lint blocked about half the holes. I had to take the drum out, remove this deflector by removing four screws inside the drum then cleaning out the lint. The lint was all brown and scorched.

You quite possibly have something like a penny or a paper clip stuck at the heat duct. ***First-shut off the electric to the dryer***. From behind the dryer, remove the heat tunnel and clean it out. You will be surprised how much lint gets past the filter. It's an easy repair, just a few screws. While you're back there, look around for any buildup in other areas.

Sounds like drive belt or drum supports, if the drier is gas I would check it out, could cause a fire, if it is electric still check to make sure it is not rubbing on the electric heat element, or it could be full of lint which is catching fire during normal operation and melting or burning the belt or drum supports.
