Is this an external drive? Here a tip: Anytime you use a peripheral with USB you must load the drivers first, then hook up the device. This is only with USB devices. So try uninstalling your DVD driver, unplug the DVD player, reload the driver for the DVD player, then hook the DVD player back up. That should take care of it.

I hear noise on my toshiba laptop

It could be a fan, try blowing compressed air with a canister (not to close) through the vent holes on side/bottom of laptop.

It could be the cd/dvd drive, try removing it if you can.

It is taking forever to use the recovery DVD to intall programs an a brand new Western Digital Scorpio 250 GB hard drive I bought for my Toshiba M35X-S114. BIOS doesn't detect the hard drive which is...

If it's a 250GB, the recovery DVD needs to format this drive (insofar as I know, Toshiba's recovery disks never uses quick format) - so .... yeah! It'll take a couple of hours just to prep the hard drive before the actual recovery imaging begins, and that's assuming that the hard drive formatted without errors.

If the hard drive has errors (bad sectors), it really could stretch out the total time. I've done a recovery on a hard drive that contained 100MB worth of bad sectors and it took an entire two days to put an image on it. Why'd I do it? I justed wanted to know how long it was gonna take...

Can I upgrade memory to only one gb of memory or install 2 512 mb on a toshiba satellite m35x series

http://www.shopping.com/xPF-Toshiba-Toshiba-Satellite-Notebook-PC-M35X-S114

Looking at the specs, the max is 2gb for your Toshiba. According to this website, its only a 256mb ddr sdram. So my guess is you only have 1 slot for the ram. I'd go with a 2gb ram if you can afford it, 1gb just don't cut it in todays technology.

I believe its the PC2700 model, so find a 1gb or 2gb PC2700 @ 333mhz and you should be set.

How do I restore to factory setting Toshiba Satellite M35X S114

You need to have the restore disk that came with the machine or if you don't have it, then you will need to get a Windows XP cd and find the drivers for your hardware on Toshiba's Support website.

DVD RAM drives plug in to any available USB port. Your computer should assign it a drive letter; using Computer, explore ther drive's contents looking for an Install application. Run this` application and you ought to be able to get to the drive.
