Hp laptop has blinking red square above touch pad, comp. won't allow for reboot or restoring to factory conditions

If you do an illegal shut down which is power off by holding down the power switch for 8 seconds. The HP computer will then boot with the scandisk program, which will restore your hdd to perfection. Windows XP or later now use 'system restore' to rearrange registry from a previous calender date that the computer used to work perfectly.

Disk boot error

First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

My wifes hp dv9000 laptop will boot up and go to the desktop, 30 sec. later it shuts off, then reboots. It started doing this after we used a hp recovery disk. Her computer crashed on her overnight and hp...

You will need to do more trouble shooting. If you can, boot into safe mode and see if system reboots. If it does boot into the bios and see if it reboots there.

If system reboots in all modes then you have a hardware problem and will need to be serviced. However if it does not reboot in the bios then there is a good chance that some part of your windows system is corrupted.
