Laptop takes too long to boot when I turn it on and then freezes after using about 15 minutes. I get security alert messages from Norton saying my security settings need to be updated for virus and moware setings. However, I have tried relentlessly to update but it never completes progress and stops working never completing the udates. Can't seem to get this laptop working normally.

Viruses can make this kind of problems, but also overheating. Boot to Safe mode with networking, by pressing F8 after power on, and download Speed Fan (AMD CPU) or Core Temp (Intel CPU). Start some movie and see the maximum temperature, it should not pass 70 degrees Celsius.

SOURCE: cannot start up the laptop

Hi there.
That really quick flash of a blue screen is the blue screen of death and there is a possibility that the error could be memory related.
What you have to do is remove and clean the system memory and the slots the memory goes into.
Take out the battery and the AC power (if attached)
The memory will be located behind a panel underneath the laptop, unscrew the panel unclip the memory, clean the brass contacts and the slots with a clean, dry, soft paintbrush, then reseat the memory making sure it clips into place, replace the memory cover and reboot the laptop, see if it lets you into windows.

Please post back with the results and more help if needed, good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

SOURCE: laptop boots then shuts automatically off

Try this, if you have a fast hand, the second it boots, push Ctrl+Shift+Esc and end taskeng.exe.
If you can't do it fast enough, try booting into safe mode, going to scheduled tasks, and removing any suspicious ones.
If you don't know how to boot to safe mode, push f8 until you see a screen which allows you to choose safe mode.

SOURCE: upon startup i get an error: configFree has

I would reinstall your operating system fresh after doing a full format, remember to back up your hard drive. I have never had satisfactory results from any virus scanner or system restore.

Is there a virus that can overide any anti virus product for instance Norton?

the problem with viruses are that they are being produced by hackers at a rate that keeps them ahead of anti-virus products like norton, and the rest
so if norton is not up to date or you have the wrong product ( norton has different levels of protection)it is a possibility that a virus can get through on the back of a e-mail or from face book ( anything that has a link is a potential virus )
from your description, I would be inclined to take it to a second authorized service agent for the laptop and get another opinion as to the problem as I don't think it is a virus but a faulty lap top hard drive ( retail shops seldom have fully qualified technicians for repairs )
remember that the best anti virus protection is you and if you get e-mails or face book messages out of the "blue" regardless of how real it looks , how inviting it is or how demanding it is , always treat it as dangerous and just delete it

Unable to open live TV in HP PC Media Center

Look at the alerts in the security and firewall of Norton antivirus. It might be blocking it. also keep an eye on your bottom right corner when you attempt the live TV. Norton may be alerting you about the blocks in that area. Make sure you allow those connections. I would check Norton firewall and security before messing with the Windows firewall.

Norton Firewall Difficlty

I suggest not using norton. Goto www.avast.com and use the Free home-edition. Set your windows firewall back to defaults after norton is uninstalled.

Make sure to have Avast scan every file on your system. You very well maybe infected.

Please do not think norton is all that great because you payed for it. Get Avast.

Symantec security pop up alerts wont stop

Norton needs to be removed using the Norton Removal Tool (there is no other way of removing it completely). The removal tool can be found here:
