I bought aMaytag 3000 seris in 2008 and I am getting these messages: F21 ... Maytag 5000 Series washer F21 error code was flashing and door will not open.
An F21 code means the water is not draining away properly. There may be plugged pipe.
Here are some tips to help you:
1. Check to make sure the washer's drain pipe is draining properly. 2. Check the drain hose to see if there are any kicks or clogs in it. 3. Check the washer for excessive subs. Sometimes excessive subs can also keep the water from draining.
Of course, the above tips are useful only if you have a F21 code. If you have other error codes, you'll have to look at the manual that came with the machine.
the F21 code is a ' drain issue ' --- if you remove the bottom panel from the machine you will see the water pump right there,, just in front of the pump you will see a clean out area,, unscrew counter clockwise and remove the catch screen,,, it most likely has a few things in it ,, clean out - re-install and start the cycle. and the F21 code should be gone AND washer is back up and running.

This error appears when the drain time exceeds 8 minutes and the water valves turn off. After 4 minutes the "Sd" error will be displayed, and then 4 minutes later the F21 error code will be displayed. Press PAUSE/CANCEL two times to clear the display. Please Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked. If the drain hose if fine then unplug the washer and check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure the pump is running. Check the drain pump filter for foreign objects. To access the drain pump and filter remove the front kick panel and trace the drain hose to the bottom of the washer, drain pump would be located there. If you are not able to access it, then replace the back panel as well. Plug in washer or reconnect power. If the issue is still not resolved then you would need to replace the drain pump. Possible Causes/Procedure 1. Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked. 2. Unplug washer or disconnect power. 3. Check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure the pump is running. 4. Check the drain pump filter for foreign objects. 5. Plug in washer or reconnect power. 6. If the above does not correct the problem, go to step 7. 7. Unplug washer or disconnect power. 8. Replace the pump.
