Hi,
Welcome to Fixya. The security key can be found when you access the wireless settings page of the router. To access the router page you need a working computer that is connected to the router. To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.2.1, the Default password isblank.

Click on Security under Wireless and look for the Security Key or Network Key (Passphrase)

SOURCE: network key for router.

In onder to obtain this information you need a computer that has internet connection through the router, if you have a main computer that is wired through the router then use that computer if not try to hardwire the laptop to the router(plug it to any of the number ports that say ethernet/lan). Access the setup page of the router by typing 192.168.2.1(deafult IP address of the router) on the address bar of your browser(i.e. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari), type admin for the username and leave the password blank. Go to the Wireless Settings/Configuration tab of the router and verify the security mode(WEP or WPA)

SOURCE: Forgot my security password (network key)I need to

Logon to your router from your computer using your browser and going to http://192.168.1.2/. If it wants a username, the default username is blank and the default password is either blank or "password".

The Belkin management tool will come up. From there, go into your security and look to see if your passphrase is visible. If it is, you're good to go. If not, you can change it on that page save it and close out.
Don't forget to change the passphrase on any wireless devices you are using connected to the Belkin wireless router.

SOURCE: need network key for belkin g+ router 802.11g

if you own the router and you don't know the network key or forgot it.
you need to reset your router, please check the intructions that came with it. if you haven't change the admin password (which is by deafult blank) go into the admin page and change or delete the network password doing something similar to this
if you don't have or can't remember the admin password you need to restore the router to defaults to reconfigure it

if you don't own the router and don't know the network key you need to ask the router owner for the key or use a program to hack into the router signal and attempt to figure the key out. (not recommended as it is ilegal)

SOURCE: I lost my network security

Connect with your existing computer (either wired or wireless)

  • click start
  • click run
  • type CMD
  • type ipconfig and press enter
  • note the default gateway address (should be something like 192.168.1.1 for example)
  • etype exit and press enter

  • open a browser
  • enter the gateway address in the address bar i.e. http://192.168.1.1 as per the above example
  • This will take you to the login screen for the router or the setup screen in the router
  • you may need the login details for the router (if you don't have these then try the factory defaults for your router type, which you can get with a quick google search)
  • You can then find or reset the wifi key on the WiFi section of the configuration pages.

(note if you can't get into the router you can do a factory reset, HOWEVER you need to make sure you have all the broadband user account settings to attempt this)

hope this helps

Where is the network security key

The network security key is set by the user when the home network is setup. It prevents people from stealing your wireless signal. If you have forgot it, or didn't set it up but it still is asking for one, you can unplug and hit the reset button on your router and delete the home network you have on your main computer. From there, just run the network setup wizard from the main pc and set your network security key to something you can remember as well as write it down. Then you should be set to add any other pc to your home network as long as when you try to connect, you put the correct key in.

My belkin has an orange color and i cant connect to my laptop because it has an red X saying the settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements or the network Please help!

Hi lil_dreamer,

The Reason why you have that message is because the Network Key on the Router did not match the Network Key that you've entered on the computer to fix this you need to access your Wireless Settings Page and check the Network Key after that we will remove the same settings on the computer and add a new one.

To access your router just open a Browser then type 192.168.2.1, password is blank. Click on the Security under Wireless. You can change the security type of your rotuer to WPA, WEP or you can also Disable the security. Personalize the Passphrase or Network Key so that you can easily remember it.

Now that we have the information needed lest configure your computer.

- Click on Start or Orb.
- Click on Control Panel.
- Select Network and Sharing Center.
- Click on Manage Wireless Networks on left under Task
- Remove all the Saved Networks on the list.
- Click on Add.
- Select Manually create a network profile.
- Enter the Network Name (SSID), Select the Encryption Type (WPA,WEP,WPA2), Enter you Passphrase or Network Key.
- Put a Tick or Check on Start this connection Manually.
- Click on Connect. Wait for the confirmation and it will work fine now.

Don't forget to say thanks. Thanks for using Fixya.

I have a belkin router set up in my home and I just purchased a 2nd laptop but I am unsure how to add this new laptp to the connector

If you router is already set up and you want to add a new computer, you don't need to run the set up CD for the router again.
If you want to add a new wireless device ( laptop or any other wireless device) to the network, then you should know all the wireless settings of the router. What wireless settings do you need to know ?
You should know the wireless network name ( SSID ), wireless channel and the wireless security password
( network key ). Once you get all the wireless settings of the router , you will need to connect to the wireless network on the computer. when you try to connect to the network , you will see your wireless network in the list. You just need to select your network and connect to it. If it is secured then you will need to enter the network key and you will be able to go online.
To check the wireless settings of the router , you will need to access the router set up page. On the set up page you will find all the wireless settings of the router.

Whilst online my connection went off using my belkin 54g, and wont let me connect again as it says, 'The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network'...Why...

That message means that your wireless security key has been changed to a different password. All you need to do is go to Network and Sharing Center > Manage Wireless Network, then delete all the listed wireless profiles there. Now click on Add > Add a Network that is in range of the computer > Choose your network and connect. Make sure to type in a correct network key. That should do it.

I need my network key to add a new computer. I went to the belkin 192.168.2.1 page but which code is my network key please?

Hello...if you have logged into your router, you can find your network key by going to Wireless > Security on the menu.
If using WPA encryption, your network key is on this page: it will be labelled Pre-Shared Key or PSK according to the manual I have. Hope this helps.

(For info: the network key may also be known as the passphrase, WPA shared key, WEP key, WPA-PSK, authentication key, or security key).

How do I security enable my Belkin router?

Hi there,
Connect a computer to any one of the four LAN ports of the Belkin wireless router. DO NOT use a wireless connection, use a cable.
Open your web browser and type the IP address of the router (by default, the address is http://192.168.2.1.) in the address bar and press Enter.

Click Login on the top of the page to login to the router. By default the Password is left blank, click Submit.
Click Security under Wireless menu.
Under Security, Select 64 bit WEP (or 128 bit WEP).
Select Key 1 and enter any 10 hexadecimal digits - any combination of 0-9, A-F (26 digits if you selected 128-bit as the encryption strength). You may also enter a pass phrase and have the router generate a key for you. Example (0102030405060708090a0b0c)
Apply the settings.
Please write down the key – You will need it later to configure your wireless computers with the same key.
Remember to set an admin password before you close down, other vice anyone can access you router and change the setup and admin password.
/regards
